Hi All,

Pretty new to SUP but with a long surfing background but interested in doing 'the doctor' downwind race in January between Perth and Rottnest island. Would love some info from others who have done some downwind events regarding board choice, training etc or where I could find some specific info.

Cheers!

Welcome to the Breeze.. I reckon just buy yourself something like a 14' Glide and catch up with some others that are also into it and have fun..

One thing about doing down-winders is never look back.. I only look back in my vids to see where the others are.. and it's all about sneaking in behind the wave in front.. not catching the wave coming from behind.

I think you can learn something from watching my videos.. This is my latest that I posted last week.. At the end of this one others should appear that you can also watch.

Awesome vid, sure gives a great view of what you are doing, looked like some great little runs. Is that wind around 12-15 knots??

Get to as many demo days as you can ,and try out as many boards as possiableand differant paddles .
I have the C4 Vortice XP 14FT and this board suit's me . Some come with rudders ,which I can't comment on as I've never paddled these boards .

Then get out there and start paddling ..... your love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah.. with the odd 20 knot gust.. It's when the wind gets over 30 knots the fun really begins..

Cool vid, loved the carnage towards the end there!

I live down in the South West so if anyone down this way wants to get in touch for some training, paddling etc feel free to get in touch.

Thanks again for the info etc above
