(From Ashley on Facebook)
I wanted to update everyone on Keith. I have been getting so many messages from everyone - thank you so much.
Keith had his surgery yesterday at Cedar Sinai Hospital in LA.
The surgeon said that the procedure went very well. And he is optimistic they got all the infection out of the bone. He also got all of the left over bone fragments out that were infecting the area - that were never taken out in the first two surgeries - ugh!
They took cultures at surgery to figure out what bugs are in there. The infectious disease component is a big part of battling the Osteomyelitis and to his recovery.
Keith has a splint that looks like a soft cast on his foot now - and he cannot bare any weight on that foot for awhile. And, he has a PICC Line in for administering his antibiotics, etc.
He will be released either today or tomorrow from the Hospital. And will need to stay in California for the time being for routine checkups at Cedar Sinai.
The doctor that was recommended to us - and that performed the surgery is Dr. Thordarson. He is one of the top foot and ankle surgeons in the country, if not the world.
There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel now. The road to recovery is never easy, but at least there is a road now. And we believe that there are many reasons for cautious optimism.
Our dear friends Kacky, Michelle and Derrick - have been updating the Web Site with information - just in case you are interested in getting regular updates you can sign up there.
