The photo of Jason Polakow doing a bottom turn (in supworld) shows his front footstrap!

It must suit him, being a windsurfer. Is anyone else using straps?

I am constantly moving around on the board. Wiggling in and out of a footstrap seems like an unnecessary pain in the ass.

He is charging though, so it's obviously working for him!

JP has been using a front strap on his SUP boards for a long time now and loves it.. (like many others in Hawaii) .. and he's good enough to make it work.. I can imagine seeing some trade mark sup moves coming from him in the future just like be did windsurfing that are only possable with the use of a footstrap.. My knees hurt just thinking about it.

i'm pretty sure he wasn't using any kind of straps on our trip to the nw desert

maybe a case of mistaken wave identity ?

No.. I think that's because he was using the stock JP boards and doing a promo for them.. Back in Hawaii he has very different boards.

Btw.. On Jonathan's last trip to Maui he used Kramers (spelling?) little Starboard that had a front footstrap fitted and loved it so much he came home and ordered one for himself and will fit footstrap inserts so he can do the same.. He said he had no trouble getting in or out of the strap.. Maybe it's a windsurfing thing.

Thinking out aloud, he might just have a windsurfing habit of lifting up his front foot to force more weight onto his back foot, to tighten up some turns... etc...

For me, it's harder to get my head around the "Reef Shark Fins" (Weird SUP Fins), than a front foot strap! But neither for me....

PS - I'm sure those fins help tracking on flat water.... Just not so sure about their ability to release is juicy waves !

can we make a habit of not naming the break in the nw desert - especially on the forum topic list.

this is generally the convention among most mags- unfotunately a few mags have dropped the ball recently on this one

When we did the shoot up there last year we went to great pains not to name the place (ok we named it -Eneeaba) out of respect for the locals / tourists who make the effort to get there

i know it seems silly but i already get enough attitude up there from surfers as it is just for having the gall to even paddle out on a sup

having seen multiple breaks in indo and here in west oz overrun with packs of brazilians i can understand -its no fun when those guys come out in packs of 3 or more - so anything to delay the inevitable is understandable.

I'm pretty sure the shot of the name of the camp site near the end of your excellent video gives it away. Google is mighty handy

Funny, its not a "secret spot" anymore. Every sweeper, crawler, goatie and pollie know all about it, but dont talk about secret mens business

agree with the comments above - its definitely treading a fine line when you shoot up there.

Balancing great action opportunities with bringing in crowds is a vexed option.

Very few of the SUP waves shown were actually at the "usual spot" -we went to a less crowded spot for the real heavy action.

I hope the place never gets as out of control as some of the qld points. Not much love in the water up there.
