Here is some new technoogy that Australian Paddle Surfer Magazine is looking at getting involved in, in the very near future...

Imagine a dedicated SUP Wave Garden running these perfect, glassy waves all day, every day (and night) without those cranky longboarders or has-been shortboarders hassling and giving abuse.

Stay tuned.

Maybe we can use it for the SPSC club comps - just make sure it is a right hander to annoy Dan

the wave garden guys seem to be from spain. It looks like a different design to some of the other floating around, this one looks to be creating the wave on the outside bank instead of inside.

there is this for those that missed it http://www.surfinglife.com.au/news/asl-news/5805-kelly-slater-launches-wave-pool-company
this seems like the patent for the Slater one (given the patent holder is from Florida) www.freepatentsonline.com/6920651.html

then there is the Greg Webber version www.coastalwatch.com/news/article.aspx?articleId=3318&cateId=45&title=The%20future%20could%20be%20fake&display=0

Slater's is different technology - constant flow of waves around a central island (complex and expensive).

Wave-Garden is a very simple design which can be setup on any body of flat water at a very affordable price.

Can they make waves bigger than 1 foot? What technology creates the swells?

Looks great for grommets learning to surf though.

Apparently they are working on the 2nd prototype which will produce shoulder high waves.

From what I understand Greg Webbers wave pool is also circular, is cheap to install and uses little energy. Greg says he can make stand up barrels no problems.

The benefit of circular versus this is you can literally ride forever and it takes far less energy to keep something moving rather than tow it all of the way back to the other end and then start it all over again.

from the Patent application title: WAVE-GENERATING APPARATUS

Abstract:
Wave-generating apparatus (1) that is installed in an aquatic environment (3) and which comprises, as its main elements, at least one elongated profile (5) that moves tangentially in relation in relation to a uniformly-deep floor (4) by the action of a drive mechanism (6). As a result, a wave (2) forms on the profile (5) and moves along with the profile (2). The profile (5) is disposed to form an angle (8) other than 90? with the direction of displacement (7), the purpose being to generate a wave (2) with an escape area and which can therefore be surfed. Some parameters of the apparatus (1) may be adjusted for the purpose of changing the degree of difficulty of the wave (2) that is generated.
