As a vicco cold water boy, I know there are some surf rules you are not supposed to break. Dropping-in has to be rule #1 you don't break.

I have been staying at Kirra for the week, with a view up to snapper from my "apartment" (is there a more crowded wave anywhere in the world?) and I can't believe how many times a person will take off and one or two or even three people will drop in on them. It is out of control!! OK, sometimes the guy taking off deep is too deep, but usually, the guy paddling for the wave will make it collapse, so even if they pull back, they have wrecked the wave for the guy up and riding.

I just expected that at the home of Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore there might be a stricter adherence to the rules.

I go back to the cold tomorrow...

Haha everyone who surfs Snapper loses the ability to turn their head to the left so to be fair they don't see anyone on the wave.

Rules as far as I know is the most aggressive gets more waves and any normal rules of the surf do not apply.

Burleigh is better.
Had a great time there in April.
Everyone was chilled.
Maybe not at the point but where I was anyway.

One of THE most aggressive and crowded surf breaks on the planet. Had many an awesome SUP session there over the years with incredibly long rides.

Geez, I dunno. Sounds like all kindsa hell to me.
Move to Darwin - the only crowds you need to deal with are the occasional snapping handbag and a few million box jellyfish in the wet season.
Otherwise - it's offshore, boardies and empty lineups !!!

Crowds and surf craft don't mix . Just not worth it . If there is more than 3 or 4 people on a break I would not even bother .

The o'l Snapper snake pit, did you get out there? Wouldn't you just love to jump on a big tanker sup and just leave some carnage in your wake though?

I did not go out to snapper. That would do my head in...

I did surf Kirra, but only when it was not too crowded. It was usually possible to pick off a few good waves - I had some great waves actually -fast almost barreling waves. A lot of guys paddled for everything but enough waves made it through to keep me entertained. I also surfed down the beach a bit. It was not the best break, but I had it to myself.

Haven't surfed there but can only imagine what it would be like, your strategy is exactly the one I use when SUP surfing. Not every wave gets ridden so if you are in a position to get the wave without affecting anyone then thats a huge win. Some of my best waves have been doing that..or being able to paddle up to a bank that has started firing that is too far away for the crowd to get to.

There is a song by Midnight Oil, it goes like this. The rich get richer the poor get the picture the bombs never hit you when your down so low.
Pecking order out there, aggressive at times pending who's out,if you know you know if you don't you soon learn fast, welcome to the home of champions. Snapper Rocks ,rock on!

Can you tow foil there with a jet ski towing an unlimited board ready for to jump on the next reform wave, then on the inside boggie the shallow reef section then hand surf the sand bar at the end, then do an air jotdon bail at the back and have gopro and drone for next season series the game of thrones?

Couldn't believe my luck, about 5 years ago on one of my trips South to Coolangatta...no one out at snappers, mid day winter howling onshore head high and crappy as f*#k grey and cold almost NZ styles...but hey no one out, lol paddled out on my 9"1 longboard purple flame and all its glory, caught a lumpy distorted moving bit of water that resembled a wave, kooking it down the line somewhere near rainbow, fist pumping all the way to shore, lol pick your time and don't even bother paddling out when it's perfect... Oh the empty line up didn't last long....the hordes where waiting for a sucker to test the water. About year previously after waiting for over an hour for a gap top end of rainbow, small day but perfect, I just went faaaaarrrrk iiiiiit dropped in on the biggest dude on a long board, poo stance on my 6" fish going for broke cracking up all the way, the big dude looked like a solid Maori dude, but then so do I, I finally kicked out and went chur bro, Shaka back to him. Goldie and Sunny coast where I first learnt the meaning of party wave....got to love it

stay stoked!
