One point I would like to make is that SUP racing has completely disappeared from this forum - people who race have gone elsewhere to discuss their sport presumably because they don't feel a strong enough sense of affinity with flat water cruising, surfing, foiling or down winding when it doesn't involve a race. They're only interested in racing and it seems they don't want everything else so they must go some place where there is only racing. It is the nature of modern media where fragmentation happens organically. As a channel, if you resist that, your audience will desert you and find somewhere else where their specialised interest is catered for.
I don't think it was a conscious move on the racings part to desert Sea Breeze. Face Book started to be the media where races were announced and covered. It's easier to advertise races, post photos and share comments on FB than it is on Sea Breeze. You can target and invite the people you want to communicate with much easier on Face Book where Sea Breeze depends on who happens to have a look. FB tends to give immediate feedback and allow more discussion. I was one of the main posters of racing and I haven't been on Seabreeze for months.
I also found that Sea Breeze was being dominated by certain riders pushing one brand in particular over and over again. The interesting general threads to read started to disappear in my opinion and It seemed I had to sort through brand promo's strategically placed before I could find anything to read. In fact that brand could have had their own topic forum.
Having said all of that, Sea Breeze is by far the best avenue to ask for advice on a specific topic and share opinions
So Wave Science I suppose I agree with you. The race guys may have just moved to a media where their specialised interest is catered for. There are plenty of down wind sites on Face Book that are based on locations as well so it's a much smarter way to communicate. Sorry Laurie, I'll check back in another couple of months.
