There are 4 of us trying to plan to go to WA for week of DW racing in Nov/Dec
Does anybody know a good solution to ship boards over and back from the Gold Coast
Or would it be easier to get boards over there

pack them well .but its cheap enough ...and at least you will get the board you know .

Startrack and Sadliers are just common carriers, they will take whatever you pay them to take, so they cant be booked out, just allow a couple of days extra if they have highlighted they are busy.
Richard is one man in a truck, so if he says he is full he will be, by far the best and usually the best priced too though.

Andy at Naish organised a bulk shipment for SPSC guys one year, but i imagine they would have made that known if they were doing it again.

Use Richard, but give him early warning.
He can do some pretty amazing turn arounds, and the care is there.

As far as I know we haven't booked Richard yet for Downwind Week. Our booking (SPSC) is normally made in conjunction with Deano at Ocean Paddler as he organisers The Doctor. Deano probably has him booked already. Contact Deano as Andy is still sun baking in Bali on an extended trip.

CLOSE TO 30 PADDLERS on EAST COAST wanting to get boards to Perth & Back
Board length 14ft thru to 18ft
Need to be in Perth by 24th Nov leave after 4th Dec
Each paddler paying $300 per board is a nice $9000 waiting for somebody
If anybody can start putting word out would be great so we can start booking flights and accomodation
Would be a pity for all these paddler to miss this great week of racers in WA this year
Who knows maybe more will be interested if transport is organised
If you are one of these people thinking about going but would need a board transported please comment here

Just thinking out loud here.

I did a budget trucks quote online. 21 days from 17/11/16 to 08/12/16
6Tonne, 6.4metres long MR licence required, 3 seater.. includes 4200km allowence. (thats one way GC to perth) extra km is .33cents a km. add extra 5000k = $1650.

Hire cost $2553 (including all insurances and road side etc).. plus $1650 extra km cost.
= $4203.
plus fuel $1500
= $5703.

Thats $3300 profit margin from 9k revenue from board payments.
rig up a internal board rack cheap enough? (no idea)

use the truck for Down wind shuttles while in perth and charge a small fee for a spot to get some of the money back.

around 3k profit thats enough to pay for accom ( or sleep in truck outside STIMO'S )and expenses for a 21 day tour and free ticket to Down wind week in WA.

Surely you could get a lot better deal than the standard online quote also.

If I had an MR licence and could get time off work I would be up for that.

Us in the west in the past have used Australian Container Removals to transport our boards across for the nationals. I have spoken with them this morning and they are keen to assist and will offer a discounted rate. All you have to is make contact and nominate a drop off address, they cover pretty much every nook and cranny in Australia, best to pick a central point easy for everyone to get to, best if you have a commercial hard stand or even a big front verge will do, they will drop off a 20 footer a couple of days prior to it's departure date for packing. We make up a timber frame to fit the boards in, we fixed it together with some bugle screws and text screwed it to the walls of the container, we fit about 24 from memory, however I think you may fit a few more. This left plenty of room for paddles and life jackets and anything else, maybe a few wave boards they will then pick it up and send across OZ. If you PM me we can sort out a drop off destination here in Perth. Couple of tips, use a combination lock so everyone can have access, make sure you secure your boards inside the container, they get shunted around, also lots of padding under the boards or use a cover as the clickety clack of the train across the Nullarbor will wear a hole in it. We have had no damage each time we have used this system.

Most of us base our selves in Mandurah, close to where the half cut starts. We can do the run that everyone does all week and walk up to the house.
Otherwise Stimo has a camper inside his garage with the biggest private beer fridge I have ever seen,
