Now that I am working for myself I'm finding I have less time to go surfing. My new plan for this coming summer season is to keep the board in my ute when I know I may have a chance for a quick lunch time or afternoon session. The only issue I have in my mind is heat.

I keep my board in a board bag which obviously creates a fair chunk of humidity inside the bag. Would I be better off with a board sock or what is everyone's usual plan when keeping a a board on there car for long periods?. If I'm at a job for a few hours I'd pull it off and stick it under my car but there are times where I'm in between jobs where this isn't an option.

Would love to hear anyone's feedback.

I'd consider leaving the end of the bag open if at all possible to let some of the heat out if you're leaving in the tray

I have stored my boards wet in bags in my van and leave them there constantly, and I have no garage so my van stays outside in the sun.

Never had any issue for 10 years, but I always leave the bags open on at least 2'. Also my boards are stored sideways (on the rail) with fins on, with the open portion of the zip on the top (basically from the bag side handle to the tail), to help hot air circulate out of the bag, and the bag cling less to the deck & hull of the board. Also my van is windowless. And on dry windy sunny days I open all the doors to let it dry.

I think color of the vehicle is important - White getting the least hot. I have a Silver van which is pretty good.

Haven't ever had an issue. We only get around 32?C here, but UV12+...LOL Just keep the windows cracked, and leave the bag unzipped if moisture is a concern.

Surf aids in bryon do custom light weight white bags, they might even put some breather holes in it, they are a great product.

I have found white bottomed boards are fine bare on the top of my car year round. I only use bags on planes.
