Deck panels are made. Glued together with a strip of glass under the join. The join is mostly covered by the cork deck pad.

Template made and trace onto deck panel. Then cut it out and vac bag onto board. I will weigh the panel once its cut out.
Any guesses on weight. It's about 3.5m long and 0.75 in the middle. 0.4mm thick. Paulownia wood.

11.3 KG AND WHAT DID YOU USE TO JOIN

11.3 is bloody close at the moment. I meant the deck panel which weighed 1.8 kgs. A lot of weight to add but looks great.
I used PVA wood glue to glue the strips together for the panels and thickened epoxy to glue it down.
I have started sanding the edge of the wood to fair it in. Easier than I thought.
How is your board coming along lukemin.

Looking good. How did you make the grooves. Is it graphite powder in the epoxy? I've always wondered how Sunova does that.

its Jacquard powdered pigment for the black.I made these grooves with a bunch of cutting discs on a shaft running over a guide for the wood to be fed down.
done a surfboard before cutting the grooves with a set of nails resined into a block and run down the wood which is held in place in the guide, they look more like the Sunova ones as the groove comes to a point instead of being the same width all the way through like the ones in the pic

Building up the epoxy. Playing with the cork for the deck. I prefer with gaps.

Hi Tarquin1,

Looking awesome.
You have taped and trimmed the flax over ply!?
The cork looks really good, i guess with gabs you can spread it further back.

Cheers

Thanks for the positive feedback people.
FOT, I generally get out around Cottesloe.
Tarquin, the deck is 2.5mm and the bottom is 1.5mm. 125g glass, 1 layer under the balsa and 1 over the bottom + extra around fins
2 layers over balsa on the deck + extra layer from around standing area back to tail.
Kami. it weighs 9.5kg, bit heavier than I like but I guess Im pretty liberal with the resin.

Getting closer. Deck pad on with 125g S-glass patches under it. Last coat of epoxy on the deck. Sand and varnish next.
The bottom hopefully only needs 1 coat of epoxy. Probably end up being 2.
