Hi welcome to SUP surfing, you wont regret it and once you catch your first wave you will be hooked for life.
I cant answer your questions with regards to your location or surf breaks you wish to visit.
But assuming you haven't surfed in general there is a lot that both of you will need to understand before you paddle out to enjoy your first surf. here are some points:
1. Learn the surf etiquette, especially when you finally get confident to surf close to prone surfers or anyone for that matter.
2. Give respect get respect.
3. Start small and set simple goals, such as setting up and dropping into a wave.
Final advise: Learn in an area where there is no one around that you can effect in the water, only surf near others once you are able to confidently turn, catch a wave and control your board. Do a risk assessment and make sure you have first aid covered. Your first learning experience will be the most fun but will also be where you are most vulnerable to injury.
Enjoy yourselves but not at the expense of others!
Stay stoked
