Yes, unfortunately this is a major problem in this region and I think parts of Bali actually end up with a lot of the rubbish from the surrounding region due to water currents etc. My last visit during the rainy season, the plastic in the water around Kuta/Legian was like seaweed after a storm.... very gross

. The locals and the Beach stall guys are trying to collect as much as they can but there is not the resources for proper disposal... A lot of what is collected ends up straight back in the water I fear.
Not sure what the answer is to this, except for each individual to be infinitely more responsible for the waste they generate and the manner that it is disposed of. Some direct international assistance into developing comprehensive waste disposal or recycling wouldn't hurt either.....
