Who are the best people in each state to talk to about A) putting on a event in each state that is connected to the Australian Pro Tour or already existing events that would want to make their event a stop that counts towards the Australian Pro tour.
Its extremely unlikely everyone can make all the events.
so my proposal is your point go towards 3 or 4 events with one event being your double points event.
Surfing would have 2 person heats consisting of 20 minutes priority heats with the 2 person interchange being every 10 minutes exactly how they now do it in the WSL.
Racing and BOP
basically a weekend festival in every state that counts towards the ASUPPT.
NSW x 2 events - 1 x city...eg north shore - 1 x regional...eg: Newcastle
QLD x 2 events - 1 x Gold Coast - 1 x Sunshine Coast
VIC x 1 event
SA x 1 event
WA x 1 event

Thats 7 events
limited spots
Divisions - open mens - juniors - over 35''s - over 45's - over 55's
womens - open womens - over 35's - over 45's

I feel the sport really needs to get to this level and supported.

I surfed point danger in torquay this year at a good 4-6 ft and that is also a great spot to run a big wave invitational.

Just spoke to the legends from the Tassie winter SUP classic and they are down to make their awesome event apart of the Australian Pro Tour.

Good luck with this, it's a very worthy idea and I hope to see it come to fruition.

Having said that, I don't want to come across as pedantic or overly critical, but in marketing this as a "pro tour" feels like the same mistake that has precipitated the decline in interest in SUP events all around the world. The great appeal of all the best SUP events was that the best in the world would rub shoulders on the start line with weekend warriors and newbies alike. There was this tremendous sense of camaraderie and bonhomie. Suddenly, it went away as the sport over-reached for professionalism way before there was enough money in the sport to pay for it.

To call a series of events a "pro tour" not only disenfranchises the mug punters from getting involved, it could also be seen as extremely wishful if not dishonest. Because let's get real here - based on prize money and sponsorship, are there any truly professional SUP athletes who don't have to live a backpacker lifestyle or supplement their income through coaching or retail or other means?

Yes I understand what your saying, there are plenty of events like SUP club events, Merimbular, Scotts head paddle games that are more aimed at the general SUP surfer/etc.
Than you have the Rottnest Island comp in WA (which in my opinion is the best SUP surfing event in OZ) which caters for the more advanced riders. which I feel would be the perfect event to have as the WA leg of the tour.
There needs to be more events for the advanced riders.
I come from a bodyboarding background and used to complete on the Australian pro tour and the sport hasn't necessarily grown due to that tour, but it has definitely show cased the sport in the waves that riding a bodyboard was intended for.
The past 2 years the national titles have been decided in 1ft dribble in QLD, such a poor representation of our sport, like seriously surfing Australia why would you put a national title on in Qld in November? So happy to see the nationals are in Victoria in October this year.
At least there a chance of getting some proper waves.

look I don't even care that much... What I do care about is how the sport that I love and am dedicated too being respected and showcased for what it truly can be and is.

one thing for certain is that im putting a big wave invitational on in 2020 on a wave in Newcastle that I is a bloody epic big wave SUP spot and no one is going to dispute it because I have been out there when its 6-8ft basically every time with no one out for a few years until recently.

Its going to take people in every state eg: Tasmania to go **** yeah... lets connect and build this.

I know the 10ft Longboard revolution is bubbling away nicely and I have been talking to the people pushing this movement.

maybe the 10ft Pro Tour is a more suitable option.
