Not sure what you are getting at, should we grab a ticketed number and wait in turn as we would at the Deli counter.

What he is getting at is someone on a sup with no surf background usually paddles for every bump that comes through. This behaviour usually alienates other people in the water.

Follow greenies rules posted before he is the master of being invisible. I just usually drop in on him though

Here's some more Confucian 'rules' for the Cott:
- only surf during work hours - otherwise you are likely to be even more disappointed than you already would have been
- the 'telephone box' is not there, but if you are a beginner, that's where you should be
- enjoy the view and just being on the ocean, have a yarn - there is great merit in nothingness and wavelessness
- question why you are so committed to surfing that you are prepared to surf the Cott - perhaps frisbee golf might be more rewarding
- convert your car to gas and make the time to travel to anywhere but the Cott - the world will be a better place.

Some excellent points but whats wrong with frisbee golf?

8. DON'T BE PREJUDICED All surfers have an equal right to their fair share of the waves. Surfing has no room for prejudice.
Don't pre-judge anyone based on their sex, age, appearance, the surf craft they ride, their colour, race or religion. Every surfer
deserves your respect, so long as they follow the rules.

Don't drop in or be a wave hog.

That about covers it all doesn't it...

it's just like the circus at retirements....

I'm well aware of it Jenkz. I'm more than happy to share waves with anyone out there on whatever craft... wave riding is a great feeling that everyone should experience. But also from #8, there was a lack of respect, and a lack of following the rules from 90% of the guys out there.

But I think you are preaching to the converted on this forum. The guys your talking about probably never visit this forum.
I surf Cott alot and have never seen any agro. I have seen some snaking and the odd inexperienced SUP but nothing compared to the drop ins mals and shorties do to themselves even before it gets crowded.
I disagree with your 90%.
If I saw someone droping in snaking and being a health hazzard I would be the first to back you up and say something and I'm pretty sure everyone on this forum would also no matter what craft they are on.

It's great to hear a good attitude toward this. You may be right about the seabreeze guys knowing the rules, so maybe my post is in the wrong place. I just want to make sure the SUP guys without a surfing background are aware of them. Snaking and drop-ins aren't limited to SUPs for sure, but if it was just a matter of ignorance of the rules than its something easily fixed. There's no reason that Perth has to be anything like the Gold Coast.

Why do you all say "Cott" when you're not talking about Cott at all? I'm sure this problem is "isolated" to one break unless the SUPs have spread further afield.

No-one drops in on the locals at Cott Main. Not that I've seen. I'd say it's less of a problem than at other breaks, despite the horrendous overcrowding in such a small area. Not many mals though, and I've only seen one guy on a SUP twice and he was just paddling out and back north of the pylon, not catching waves.

If you're not using a leash in a crowded area, you deserve to get your fins snapped off. If you're not using one, you'd better be sure you're in control at all times.

Don't understand? Let me spell it out for you, it's actually quite simple:

Just like at the deli, see who was there before you and wait your turn until they have been served.

Don't snake just because you can get on the wave earlier.

Nah Im talking south of Cott to many swimmers in the water for me I never go there.
Yeah i think it is rather "isolated"

Apart from some "isolated" places, I thought the general feeling around Cott is pretty good.

More often than not if there are any SUPs getting a heavy handed then there is a quiet word and everyone continues on.

Well this brings rule #10 into play.
Know your limitations.
All for sharing waves around and not upsetting anyone, but why do people persist in trying to catch mushy powerless waves on shortboards at this isolated spot.
Use the right board for the job.
And I agree that anyone not wearing a legrope should be chatted to when surfing around others.

No leggie = get sent in! A mate got hit by a stray mal not long ago in his calf, three months out of the water because of it!
