jandals, sandals, flipflops ahah we all learn... THONGS then. Even tho where I come from these are worn on a slightly higher body part, centred and (for me) mostly on the other gender...
If you are an Aussie which is most likely let your brain hereby replace FlipFlop or sandals be automatically replaced by THONGSHere we go. Lets just say we are in BETA testing mode. The idea first.
The idea was: 3 things combined : Lifestyle | Style | Life (with less waste)
1) LIFESTYLE:
We live on the beach. We wear shorts and FlipFlops (and no shirts if possible). Yes also to work and making the boards! So FlipFlops are a key part of our lives.
2) STYLE:
We all surf and the space beneath our feet are pads. And they feel good. Not much more to say about that.
3) LIFE (with less waste):
We are manufacturing our boards in The Board Factory Co., Ltd., which we run ourselves and therefore we obviously see a lot of things that are just wasted every day. At the same time we order some things in other factories and we of course see the same waste also there.
So when we combine those 3 the idea is simple.
We need FlipFlops and we are proud of our brand and we like them just like everyone just that little bit different than the ones available everywhere.
So we take and collect the left over cut material from our boards and board bags and provide those to make the FlipFlops.
The results is an almost CUSTOM MADE shoe that uses:
- our cut offs from the deck pads of the SUPS and the back pads of the surfboards
- in inside are from the off cuts of the kick tails
- the straps are the off cuts of our CUSTOM board bags which basically come in ANY fabric we can print
Below are a few pics of the first Custom Shoes.
And just to say it as i can hear it already. This idea is STUPIDLY expensive and in absolutely EVERY way it could be for manufacturing completely “UN-EFFICIENT”. Thats why it took a great amount of convincing (over even more amounts of late night beers) with the manufacturer to really actually make them. Trust me they hate to make shoes that they cannot make millions and waste even more material that don’t want to be used…. Well. Its isn’t saving the world, but everything counts. Any idea what to use the old beer bottles for let us know… Thanx, Tino
