SUPWA is proud to present the 2014 Action Sports WA Flatwater20


Western Australia's premier marathon SUP event. State Championship 20km circuit race with multiple portages - carrying your board for 100m. One of the most challenging SUP races on the calendar. This year there is also a 10km circuit race with no portage.

Action Sports WA will be putting up a $1000 board voucher as a prize draw for competitors.

Female Open State Championship*

10km Divisions:

Female Open - 12'6-14'*

Male Open - 12'6-14'*

*If 4 or greater paddlers to justify a division

Briefing 0700

Start 0730

*NO PFD or Leash required for racing.

Understand that the course is on the Swan River near Ascot kayak club - any chance of a map/image of the actual courses (both 20k & 10k) being posted please?

WOW!!! How good is that, mad if you don't girls, it's random you don't have to be first.

Just a question though in the first post it says "Female Open State Championship*" under the 20km division.
Yet later on it's Female U/40 and Female O/40 State Championship under the 10km division.

And no despite what some might say I don't think I qualify (unfortunately), I am just curious as it looks a bit confusing.

Bummer, sorry the first post is correct and the poster is wrong in regard to female divisions.
20km is open female state champs
10 km is just open female 12'6 - 14'

There is no U/40 or O/40 female this year (unless the entries get over 10 for the 20km, then we would split them )

Might make it a bit more interesting for all the crew riding flat water boards with not a lot of volume in the tails.

Also heard there will be no pontoons to come in on and go out off this year???

gentle 3 buoy turns (like last year) rather than a single buoy apex turn. Portage section same entry point onto a pontoon, but exiting from the beach area in front of the club....no pontoon, a bit easier for everyone though. Shame - I was looking forward to sticking one of the jumps onto the board.

Hey Stimo

let me know if you are still having problems with logging on. Renewals were die last month so that could be part of the problem if your membership isn't renewed - the program is very specific with this for entries.

Update for Action Sports WA Flatwater20:
Female 20km course - only 2 portages (the first 2).
Drafting is allowed across all divisions for this year.

Entries close midday Saturday online. Get entered for the biggest SUP marathon in WA and to be part of the draw prize of a $1000 board voucher from Action Sports WA.

Great event and well done to all involved in the organisation, another well run and fun event and also to Darren and Todd at Action Sports WA for the sponsorship!
Pretty impressive to watch the leaders from the other side of the course whilst trying not to get lapped ha, well done Will on the win.

Many thanks to the fine organization from SUPWA, and specifically Greg, Roger and Chris, which led to a perfectly smooth running of our event. It's great to be included in the CWA event each year and it's obviously growing in popularity.

Conditions on the day were excellent, variable winds, cool temp and almost slack tide. Good course and a healthy number of starters for a marathon style event.

Congratulations to all of the paddlers who completed either the 10km or 20km race and especially those who have never paddled that far before (and there were a few)!

To all the ladies who completed the 20km, well done and hope you didn't shape up too badly today. Aside from the $1000 board voucher as a major prize this year, we offered to give away a Fanatic raceboard to a female paddler if we got 10 women to complete the course. Unfortunately, we only had 4 female entrants to race the 20km distance this year, so we get to keep the board. On the upside, we had 4 women to paddle the 20km! That's 300% more than last year. I will offer the same prize again for next year and am sure I'll be giving away a new board then. C'mon ladies start training and if you need to borrow a raceboard, there are a few shops who will no doubt allow you to borrow one for the race to give you a 1 in 10 chance of winning a raceboard.

At the end of the day as mentioned by Will Lee, the winner of the event, the camaraderie amongst all paddlers is what makes this sport so great, many thanks to everyone who trained, attended, helped and raced on the day.

Fantastic event and I hope we start to see a few pics on this thread once everyone gets themselves sorted again.
