I use a QB Kanaha small.
The last $250 paddle I use was the OxBow carbon and yes there is a huge difference between that and a $495 paddle. The weight, the response, everything.

I took a while to get onto a top line paddle with much the same reasoning, now I could not go back. Is it worth it??? only you will be able to put a value opinion on the price. For me it is, and clearly with the number of $450+ paddles on the water I'm not the only one that thinks so.

Methane.. .. Hate the smell.. Love the paddle..

Mike Fry made my paddle worth every cent and its a work of art as well as an incredible paddle. You will notice the difference in the $ difference I reckon.

Buying a paddles reminds me of the old saying they used when you bought a Hi-Fi System - get your speakers right and build around it.

You will change your boards many times but the one thing that you will keep as long as you can, it is a good paddle. A good paddle is all about 'feel'. A good paddle 'gives back' what you put in and more.

You ride your board but your paddle is truly an extension of your body.

Spend what you have too, but get it right and your only thoughts will be very stoked ones!

I came into your shop in May and showed Jason my paddle I was using at the time and asked him to compare it to the Kanaha you had in stock. He said it was like comparing a Hyundai to a Ferrari. $489 later I took it home. He was on the mark as I could tell the difference 1st paddle. He also cut he paddle to size or me. Sad thing is I left it behind at Cooks River boat ramp a few weeks later and never seen it again. Sh-- happens.

Sorry for hijacking thread, but has anyone tried the Werner bent shaft paddle?

A less publicised paddle in the Quickblade range is the 8" SlimJim.
It was developed by Jim as an all-round surfing paddle and i snow part of the liune for 2011/12.

I love my Methane (developed by Blane Chambers) for my smaller boards and pure surfing. I find the 8" SlimJim allows me to both surf and pull a bigger board through the water when I need to.

Can you believe the Methane came out in 2008! A classic for sure!

I personally use Starboard enduro paddles and in my experience they are every bit as good as any QB or Kialoa and a ship load cheaper. I am no pro surfer/paddler - just an everyday surfer who likes a strong, light and efficient full carbon paddle at a realistic price.

Guess if price was taken out of it I pick qb slim jim

Halfcut the main difference in price comes from where they are made.
Quickblade and KIALOA are hand made in the USA.
