IF you surf a reef break wave which would you choose ,for a average surfer like me .
SP25 8'8 31 5/16 wide 138 litres ,says better for more gutless waves ,but ok in size sometimes .
wedge ,8'8 30 ,25 wide (worried about tippy) and 141 litres should contour act some of the tippy ,
current board 8'8 flow ,does struggle a little in big waves, also 8'8 .but 125 litres ,easy for me ,but sinks now I'm a little heavier ,(fat)
help .

If you have a Flow in your quiver, you already have a fatter wave performance board.
To complement it, a SP24 would be a better choice. Suited for waves with more power and shape. Not a flat tailed rocker speed machine, but a top to bottom board in waves with push from chest high+.

I agree you want something with a decent amount of rocker and possibly more gunny and long. For waves with really good shape curve in the middle is really nice also. I do like the idea of the throttle or sp24, but they would be more specialized with the narrow nose and tails they look tricky to balance on. My step up is a full 8'' longer and pretty well rockered for steeper waves but I maintained some width in tail and nose to make it more of a "fun" gun I can use in bumpier or worse waves as well. One idea would be start with your flow and have them make it a bit longer, narrower and thinner at same volume. At my volume the flow2 definitely looks more like a small to med wave board. I'd be tempted to get one if I destroy my current board.

No need to be sorry Hoppo I am also looking at that one also the kanga ,I'm really not to keen to go below 30'5 wide or go much over 8'8
I know narrower boards are slightly better in bigger waves so still to decide ,

I really like the stepped rails so thats why I'm thinking wedge ,but will have to go 8'11 to-get the width but it is over 150 liters ,which does seem a lot ,they also say the wedge is not that easy to surf ,
my flow with stepped rails is a little tippy at 31 dropping to 30-25 I might be swearing a lot if I go the 8'8 wedge.

so hard to pick not seeing them or ridding them ,but up for a challenge .

Forgot to mention I have a 9-11 insane ,way to long .but it handles big .

what I meant is start with flow and customize it, a little longer thinner and narrower. Maybe just narrow tail if your worried about standing stability and added length will make up for that. Since you already surf so well on the flow and sunova is easy to do custom with all they have to do is tweak the cad file. The wedge looks cool, but the description says "Daniel wanted a board that could be surfed radically in smaller conditions..."

So I guess you need to decide if the days you want this for at your reef break suits fast down the line or more carving in the pocket. At the board sizes your talking about I'm skeptical that sp25 or wedge will carve top to bottom in decent size waves even with your ability to get all the way on the tail.

also it rides similar to the flow which is my favorite,
shop said order this now or miss out till next year ,so I went with the SP 25
next feb I may get the 8'10 SP 24 ,as big swell starts in march for us ,I do have my 9-1 acid nearly rotten .it's old .
water logged a few times from ripping fins out .lol.but there in case .
I am worried about customs now trying to design one as my last one was not that good ,(aweful)
thought I had it ,but ended up slow and unresponsive

at least getting a pro model it's already been tested ,

I was chasing after an SP25 and just missed out on an 8'8 but ended up getting an 8'11. Yep the dims say its 150lt which was off putting at first. Ive ridden this quite a lot of late due to fairly crappy conditions down here.

There are many things to love about this board and fins seem to have a biggish impact on peformance, so definitely look at getting some quobbas on it and play with the set up. I have had it out in some juicy bigger surf and it actually felt much better to ride. It was good on a late drop, it seemed to pick up speed a lot better. Its not as nimble on a wave as the flow and you really need to put the effort in to throw it around on a wave, which is to be expected. However, it is fun cranking down the line, even getting up the front for some 'semi' nose time. I recon you are going to have a ball on the board, what size did you get?

I would love to have had the chance to ride the 8'8 SP25 as I recon that could nearly be THE board. But now Iam awaiting a ghost!!!

Sweet Dave thank you .,I ordered the 8'8 I even paid the extra and went for the Balsa ,I am happy with the TR3 which I have on most of my boards
but because it is a no graphics board I thought it needed something ,the guy I talked to about the SP 25
just was so stoked about talking about it and just couldn't praise it enough ,and he knows his **** ,thank you creek ,ha ha ,so thought there must be something good about it ,creek said it is his nice day board but prefers the 8'11
it just ticks a lot of boxes for me ,my length 8'8 and a little bit of extra volume and width wouldn't go a stray as I Have got a little bit fatter ,and older lol .and have had some bad days on lumpy days with the little flow ,
I was just thinking paying so much for a board ,what size would I get my most value out of ,so I should get it late October so good timing for summer swell ,it is only 12 liters more than my flow and 5/16 wider so will still give me some challengers (maybe) ,I will test it on big waves too ,it does say good for everyday conditions ,from waist high up to head and a half ,I will see ,but hope to get a SP 24 later ,hoppo's pick ,I think he's right but they said it sucks in small surf ,blah ,I know I went back on my original question about a reef break board ,but I'm sure I will milk some goodness out of it ,it has tonnes of speed so that's one thing I look for in a board ,I will report back on performance.not that there isn't enough write ups on this board already ,Hawaiian Johns write up changed my mind .on this board ,also talk to him about how big a wave it will handle ,all good news there .
I actually have some Quobbas already ,but I like AM2 fins so because of different fin boxes I will be looking for some Quads .

The XXX finish will be well worth the extra $$ in my opinion. My sp is in the xxx not only does the xxx look better I do feel it offers more flex in the board. I ummed and arred over the 8'8 for too long as the dims are so close to the flow 8'8 which is why I missed out on grabbing it.

As I mentioned the more I ride the 8'11 the more I love it however its defiantly not as manoeuvrable or as fast as the flow which you would expect. It could more down to my lack of skill but at times I do find the SP a bit too slow it almost seems to bog down and I put it down to the rails and high literage. (This doesnt happen on the flow) With a bit of juice in the waves you dont notice this as much. Also I miss the S rails of the flow.

I recon the 8'11 SP with some minor changes would be awesome.....

I was thinking 8'5 at one stage ,but I'm a chicken and went the safe bet 8'8 it will be my big
board At 137 litres ,my flow will still be my love child ,and the SP 8'8 is my wetsuit board ,the flow is pretty much under water with me 98- 100 kgs and wetsuit in winter ,maybe I'm 105 kgs I weighed my wet wetsuit it's heavy ,because the flow is black sometimes I wonder if I'm standing on a board in winter ,there's too many likes on this SP 25 board not to take notice ,8-11 would be too big for me as it's very wide which does create more drag that's maybe why you feel it slow
if you do go custom keep it 8'8 volume doesn't mater as much then ,I wish the flow had a little more
only because I'm a fat arse ,

I have lots to learn about boards ,I'm just hoping I made the right choice .i certainly will be pushing it hard to see what it will do .

When I first got the 8'8 sp25 I was 100kg. Now down to 85kg. (Thanks to cutting out a lot of sugar foods). At 100kg or 85kg the board was fantastic. I've tested it in all sorts of waves, wind and chop and it wasn't tippy. Ive taken this board to bali and caught some awesome waves. As STC said, keep the nose up so the front wider sides don't catch and away you go. I always keep the Sp25 and 8'11 blurr V2 in my van.

Oddly enough, I have never synced with my 8'9 Kanga.
Rode it last summer on the best swell of the season and was wishing I was on my other boards.

It just doesn't give me the easy performance I find in the big 9'6 at all.
I did ride the 9'6 Kanga in the biggest waves I've surfed in 40 years (3 x OH) and it was awesome... but the 8'9, not the same IMO

and yeah.... the Wedge is above my pay grade.
IMO, it requires strong, young legs with a lot of snap to unlock the magic that I know is in the Wedge.

Those two look quite similar shapes..do they ride quite differently? Which one do you take out for which waves?

The blurr V2 goes out in bigger, suckier waves. I definitely could go down a size from 8'11 to 8'8. The board seems to turn easier without much foot pressure.
The 8'8 goes out in slower, fatter waves. Although I did use this board in bali in bigger waves and it performed great.
Definitely my go too board's.

Interesting, I have the 9'0 kanga, I love it, I'm 95 kg, my first impression was that I could have easily gone smaller. The better the surf the better it goes. I surfed my old speeed for a couple of months here and in indo, but really missed the kanga. (Wasn't keen to risk $3000+ board on planes.)

When i got my Flow ,it shocked me how un stable it was due to the thinned out rails ,it took a while to master
and I through the towel in a few time when it was rough ,now its ok ,you have to beware not to get hit side on
as the rails dig in ,the board stays there and you keep moving ,and off you go ,dam i use to swear ,so it does like nicer off shore days with my weight ,but it surfs great ,

I am thinking as you say creek the SP25 will be a breeze to use ,I won't have to think and it will be a lot better in messy days
I like fast boards basically because I like to get in front of the wave so I have more time to line up a nice lip to bash ,because the Wedge had the thinned rails and was only 30,25 wide ,I recon I would of sworn a lot even though it has 140 litres ,it would limit the days I could use it and rough days would of been out most days ,so looking for a board I would get my most value for money out of was my deciding factor ,as they are almost $3000 ,might as well say 3 as I will have to buy fins and pads ,looking at arrival dates to Oz it will be a November early Christmas present ,I just weighed in at 101 kgs no wetsuit ,happy Buddha .
I'm not fat I've just got taller at 59 .

You and I are chasing the same dream... I too have the 8'8 flow V2 and also a 9x30 revo. Both boards are awesome on a wave they do everything for me so bloody well BUT... once it gets slightly choppy I have to work hard at staying balanced. So when it looks choppy out I now take the easy road and grab the SP25. Iam prepared to lose a little performance for the stable factor. As like you Im getting older and taller ....
i will be really interested in your feedback on the 8'8 SP25 v the flow... but by then Ill probably be Ghosting the line up.

too true Colas ,Good thing about them is how high you can ride the wave as the extra grip on the wave is fantastic ,its like you can grip into the wave and use more of its power rather than sliding down it .I love them in smaller waves you can just grab the speed of the wave easier .
I recon they would be great on your very short boards as you could go wide without it feeling wide ,my flow is 31 but feels more like 30,25 ,I would love later down the track to get a custom 8,0 or 8,5 with thinned rails but wide ,the Placid shape would be a good candidate . and maybe a faster rocker line ,

I don't know if you have thought about a deck pad for the new board since the Genrations don't come with one installed. I got the deck kit that Sunova offers with the Generation boards. It comes as a kit with dozens of little pieces that you puzzle together to fit your board. After spending a ridiculous amount of time playing with all the pieces, I am happy with the result and am attaching a photo of the end product which is made up of 14 separate pieces. There are certainly a lot of much less expensive pad options out there, but I really like this one. It's lightweight, does not absorb water, it's comfortable and grippy, and gives you the chance to be a little artistic.

What size is your Sp25 mate?

Hi Hoppo. Stock 8'8". Perfect size for my 72 year-old balance and multiple rebuilt body parts to keep working on my surfing aspirations. as though I was still 20. It feels and surfs smaller than the stated volume which mostly contributes to secondary stability due to the fine rails sloping up to a thick deck where the volume is stashed. I would say it surfs more like a 125-liter board with the floatation and secondary stability of a 135-liter board.

Depends on what you are looking for. I owned an 8'10" Speeed for a year and really enjoyed it but it did not have the shortboard feel I wanted. After that, I surfed an 8'7" Flow for a couple of years and it was awesome until a few injuries, joint replacements, concussions, and being over 70 made it too frustrating to balance on. For me right now, the 8'8" SP25 is my perfect one-board quiver.
Differences:
Speeed: Very fast paddling and down the line, easy to run up to the nose, narrowness (2 inches narrower than the SP25) makes it very quick rail-to-rail but very tippy for me in rough water, have to be right back on the tail to get tight turns like on a longboard. The longboard outline means there is a lot of nose area up there to swing around and I prefer a shortboard feel. Also, the best SUP I have found for wavesailing.
Flow: Curvy outline creates an awesome turner from the tail or mid-rail, light and snappy with a shortboard feel, forget walking up to the nose. Became too tippy for me after age and injuries caught up.
SP25: Nice stability for me, catches waves very easily, turns great but you need to move your rear foot further from rail-to-rail because of the tail width. The rocker, outline, and very pulled -in nose create a shortboard feel like the Flow but with more width and volume through the center for easier stability. Again, forget walking up to that narrow nose but that's not really my thing.

The ideal one-board quiver is definitely different for everyone.
