have seen some posts from last year and the likes but i see this style of board so positive for Perth, especially the beacheys around. need something short and fast to throw around on the low power waves to get 1-3 turns in before closeout, yet still the volume to get about and make pleasurable compared to those super short and low volume boards where people are in struggle town to paddle the things out back and onto waves.

Seems no-one is making in australia but i sure am keen to find someone within the next 12 months to get one shaped and just test it. My SUP skills are low due to only starting this year but keen as to get onto something like this.
also keen to hear thoughts on what people think of the design for the waves here and if anyone has had a dabble with making one and results?

For the conditions you describe, I wouldn't use a Simmons. True simmons have some "inertia" and need some time setting up the turns, and do not "pump" well.

I would use short (less than 7') and wide boards, yes, but with a modern bottom, rails & rocker, and fin placement, if you want quick "throwaroundability" and "pumpability" They may have an outline similar to a Simmons, but they do not ride the same.

For instance here are my "Beachbreak killers" imgur.com/a/RjuBD (both 6'8" 125l for my 100kg, new brown one 29.5" wide, old black one 31.5"). Ideal for weak beach break. Here is a sample of the ride in less-than 4s period ultra weak waves
and a friend with the same kind of shape, but in 6'4" 109l as he is lighter, in wind chop: www.gongsup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=77105#p77105

Hey CAUTION

Guess what I've got coming in the mail from the boys at Infinity:

8?7? x 30? x 4 ?? V-2 Diamond tail, Kevlar crosslink bottom/rails, carbon fiber strip on the bottom, twin fin.

Colas, that is one tiny board, well length yet you pack plenty of volume in and rails seem good. SO you are saying you would stick to regular bottom hull design, and fin placement instead of the concave id call spoon from tail and fins right on the rail pointing from corner slightly in? (hope that makes sense). Do you have to paddle your board in surf stance all the time? Id prefer a board i can front paddle then step, not sure ill get a board 7"-7"5ish to do so but thats my idea.
Definately no time for inertia or setting up turns or it is all over here.

Rawz, that is sweet to know you can get the guys to mail to AUS. You in Perth? would love to come and check it out. You ride local beachies mainly if so?

yes, I also have a 8' Simmons (and a 6'10" Simmons prototype coming in the next months I hope), and they are extra fun but different: you kind of pilot an extra fast and smooth glider, whereas a modern design feel more like an acrobatic, high-power stunt plane. Simmons are best on open face fast waves, even fat (not hollow) and can surf suprizingly well non-breaking waves, but you will found you need them to gather speed first for one second before being operational.

Sub-7' are quite slow to paddle, so they may be too big a hassle if you have rips, or hard-to-go-out conditions (closely spaced bars of powerful whitewater), or shifting peaks (it is hard to scramble to catch big sets breaking 50 meters out) . Otherwise, they are the best to "milk" small & fickle beachbreak waves

I paddle with parallel feet most of the time, only go "fencing" on take off & going through whitewater, or just moving the rear foot 1/2' back in chop for stability. I cannot manage the "world cup" shapes (ultra narrow and water to your ankles). You can see take offs on these non-Simmons 6'8"s in these vids, in "lake" (mediterranean, short period) waves.

(well the above one was in Biarritz, but in crappy conditions... so crappy I was alone in the water in this Surf City)

Sorry for the plug here. Been making Simmons SUPs since the beginning and shipping via ocean freight or air cargo to OZ is no problem. These boards are loose, fast and very stable for their size. Fun. Addicting.

SO what are your thoughts, good design for closeout beacheys for getting a few smacks in or not the right shape?

Yup, from what I could see in pictures, L41 boards are also fine examples of modern designs of this "wide&fast planshape" familly, and so should work much better in beachbreaks than the true Simmons shape.

Thanks. Great design for beach breaks. These boards catch waves and accelerate like nothing you've ever tried and the shortened rail line (among other things) makes them very nimble.

Bought one of Kirk's boards last year. An S3. I surf on the East Coast of the US-beach breaks with chop, backwash etc. Board works great. I own a bunch of boards but always ride my simsup when I can. Really enjoyed working with Kirk too-he really listened to what I was looking for. Not aligned with Kirk in any way, just a happy customer.
