hi all in sup world, after over two years in starboard world i decided to give psh a go with the hull paddler. i got a great deal from andrew at balmoral and after two surfs love the board. At 97 kgs i went for the baby of the paddler range the 9.7x32. first look at the board its chined rails are so different to anything ive surfed before. i have the carbon starboard so i new the weight of the psh was going to take a little getting used to, but once you get it moving its flys. once you step back the rails come into play and the board turns great for a 9.7. the glide down the line is great and then you can realy lay it over. construction is rock solid and at the price a great board.hope this gives you bigger guys a different option who want to push there surfing to the next level. looking to get into the hull ripper for the bigger more hollow waves. ta spencer
Sounds good Spencer
But is it just another big fat board
for big fat cruisers ?
What was your motivation
to buy that particular board in the first place?
32" wide ..
Its like having training wheels, isn't it.
Anyway I hope you're happy together.
You have my blessing.

Sounds like you two just broke up. ![]()
Hey, 32" inches wide is the new 30". Nothing wrong about that.
Tonyleitch, it sounds like you have the same prejudice as the SUP haters in the first place.
Let it go. It's a big ocean out there.
hi spencer, glad youre enjoying the 9.7. I had one but it just proved a tad too small and finicky for my 106 kg. I find the 10.2 a much better fit. Due to the hull shape the 9.2 is way tippier than the 92 or 9.6 allwaves im now riding. Having said that the hull paddlers are faster and surf way more vertically than the allwaves or manas ive surfed. the eggagerated v hull means that these boards will get vertical with minimum effort and make sections that other boards cant make. The main drawback other than the tender nature of the 9.7 was its weight. If they could bring them in at under 10 kg theyd be an awesome board.
Yearh I know
I had to say something because everybody was ignoring your post.
And you see .. they came to your defense and we now have something happening.
Anyway, I was having a bad day .. next doors' chooks demolished my newly sown lawn so I went over to complain and their Great Dane ruffed me up.
So while you were honeymooning with your new bride, er board, I was being patched up by the local ambulance officer ... and missed out on the surf action.
Anyway it's about time someone twigged to chines and exaggerated V .. just like the board I've had for the last 2 years.
cheers

That was a good lagos tonight and the new PSH bride performed well.
She looks pretty too.
Pitty you now have to sell those out moded divorcees to pay for her ..
But that's progress.

Classic Spencer! Glad your enjoying it and stirring the pot!
A 32" inch wide Hull is the new 30" in a 'flat bottom board'.
Two completely different beasts.
yeah AA, tassie needs a little kick to get the scene thinking about different shapes.ive been surfing the 9.7 all week on this relentless s/w swell window i live in. the more i surf the board the more i love it it screams down the line and then loves a massive hack but keeps the all the speed for the next section.its a realy well thought out board.this is the more mellow board in the hull series, cant waite to get my hands on the hull ripper...
Spence I have the 10'3 Hull Paddler (I'm 110kg) and boy is it stable. As stable as my 12ft Starboard big easy fun board. Only thing I am struggling with is turning hard on my forehand in waves over 3ft, it tends to slide out a bit, fine on my back hand though. Still working out my fin combo's, I wish it was a quad as they tend to work for me. I have gone back to my repaired Simon Anderson ( long story) for a bit until some new fins arrive. I am going to give some shapers Jackson Close (size 5) fins a go on the side to go with my 7 inch McTavish centre fin. What combo fins are you using? Besides this it is the most user friendly board in choppy conditions I have used by a long way, great for paddling out, wow! I would like to give a ripper a go one day for sure.
PS how's the water temp there, CRAZY I bet!
yeah AA, tassie needs a little kick to get the scene thinking about different shapes.
Strange thing to say from someone that has bought 4 starboard wide points, we have been telling you for ages to try something different.
There you go, I was the only PSH rider in Tassie, but Spencer got sick of seeing me ripping it up and has now changed teams after being a dedicated Starby rider.![]()
I had a psh before you Big Boy
and Donger had one before me
that makes you 3rd+
But I like the way you're thinking.
I had a 12' gun
Sold it at the BYO demmo day
But I do like the 12'6 PSH concept
That would be a good tool to take over to Stooges
And The Yard
Here is a custom 9'7" PSH hull paddler that came through my shop for wood lamination. still needs glassing.
aloha
Charlie
Blane shaped it. What else would "custom PSH hull paddler" mean?
copying shapes is a high form of laziness and dishonesty. To copy a shape then post it publicly would also include stupidity.
aloha,
Charlie
I'll reserve my judgement till the lovely spencer lets me try his psh - i've ridden a bigger one and wasnt a fan - must admit thought that spencer was killing it on the 9.7 on sunday arvo.
I however am still a starby man through and through and may have to relieve spence of his 9.1 pro if he is the new psh team tas rider !
How do you get Blane Chambers to send you a custom shaped blank![]()

Do you know something we don't, or know someone with a computer shaping machine.
Sorry for the confusion. I live on Oahu and occasional do vacuuming bagging contract work for PSH. This board is not for me. I enjoy this site and wanted to share the topic board that coincidentally I worked on last week. Didn't know about my location status being inaccurate.
Thanks for pointing it out.
aloha,
Charlie
hi big man, just scored 7 mile pt on my red flash (psh) and it was going off , 300 meatre rides the 9.7 just flew.now that im the no1 tassie psh rider im might get a bit more respect, being a loud pom and all.
spencer, you would of had to drag youself away from watching the Queens Jubilee to go for a surf, you wouldn't be happy about that !
Spencer, you wil be # 1 PSH rider in Tassie when I go back to the Goldy
, great session at 7 Mile this morning![]()
I think Mitchell Rae might have the a word or two about who came up with the chine rail concept..........
Hi Goggo
The chine idea has been around for a long time in boating circles and it is called the double chine because there are two creases (chines) required to form the flat panel.
Thats how it appears in the surf board shape anyway.
Over 2 years ago I built a double chine downwinder (SUP)
A shaper mate of mine, Leigh Steven, has been doing chine short
b
oards for longer than that and they perform well. He did an 18' SUP downwinder way back and also helped me with my current 9' SUP wave board which was eventually shaped by our local man Nick Stranger.
I've been surfing it for 2 years and can't tear myself away from it.
Sorry I pushed the wrong button too soon
I was going to say that a SUP board is so big and wide that it needs a way of reducing the planing area when at speed, and it needs extra vee or roll or chines and extra tail kick to get it to turn rail to rain.
We get bye at present by using exaggerated paddle strokes to get them to come round.
My bet is that performance wave SUPs will evolve to do transition turns similar to short boards, without paddle strokes.
And so I therefore think that the PSH model that we're testing currently in Tassy is heading in the right direction.
For the surfer who is competent enough the boards will be in the 9' x 30" region, or smaller for the fly weights.
Cheers
Any feed back please
