All the one's that team riders revue, yet to see an over rated board from a sponsored rider...... till they swap brands

Let's not forget those getting reduced rates for one reason or another....plus this is the internet, everything is over rated. Some do it just to reinforce their personal purchase decision...

if i was to say one board i would say the hull rippers, heard so much about them for so long before they came out, and then it sorta went quite, there where a few reviews and videos. only ever seen one guy riding one he wasn't quite doing the board justice, just my thoughts

Gotta say as soon as i see a review from a known team rider i tune out because it shows zero credability especially when they have promoted a few different boards over the years.
I think this is prob more damaging to the brand.

I think it would be a different story if no hook ups where given out. I think if a lot more boards in the med Price range or bottom would get some serious reviews. Not everyone can get hook ups or bay bulk coin for top end.

That's a bit harsh billboard ..
.. quite a few guys down our way, myself included, swear by PSH in waves of consequence.

Check out the vid "Ikaika 10" and the footage of Noah Yap, Blane, The Feeze and Jan Bruun that occasionally appear on Seabreeze.

Got to back you here Robdog.

Would actually like to know how many PSH's you have owned or ridden in decent waves Bill.

I have owned several and they are not a board to be discounted. The jury is still out on the Hull Rippers for many here in Oz, more of an acquired taste/feel. They are used heaps in Hawaii.

When the swell is on I always reach for the PSH.

Merry Xmas

I can't believe billboard said that all psh boards are overrated. Each to their own for sure, however l swear by mine. When the waves start getting heavy there is only one board l want to be on, from 3 ft to 6 ft, my 9'3" ripper goes off! And then from 8ft to 10ft the 12" psh goes off. With both these boards the only restriction associated with them is the guy riding them! Psh Rocks!

PSH boards are so loose can turn on a dime, guess some people havent experienced or know how to ride them, you have to be way back on the tail.

I,m just a week back from a Month on Maui and supped all the "known places there except pavilions (except Bernd Doernigger i haven,t seen anyone SUP overthere).
I was really eager to try them at there natural habitat to understand the design better but spotted only one normall Ripper (a rental) and two Hull rippers, just cruising.....

billboard, i see on your profile that you surf and stand up paddle board ,obviously with a quote like that all your stand up paddle boarding must be done on flat water

Actually Ive owned and ridden MANY sups and IN MY opinion psh are, and always have been over-rated - its only my opinion mate - but it is a relatively educated one - its probably a toss up though whether them or Naish are more over-rated - naish definately better quality though IN MY OPINION.

PMSL BB.... you have certainly raised the ire of the PSH party faithful.

I remember chatting to Bill Foote in Maui 4 years back excitedly telling him I was now on a PSH board he simply said "Oh.. I feel sorry for you!".

Its surely a horses for courses thing.

I agree with the earlier posts that in essence whatever Keahi or whomever rides becomes the flavour of the moment complete with vimeo , staight fins and scarcity marketing to whip us into a buying frenzy

Very true - talk about ramping. As a recent purchaser, it flashed amber.

Not sure if this is the same JP shape (looks distinctly like a quad at 1:06 - although I think its just an optical illusion?), but if it is, then the board certainly seems to be sympathetic to good surfing. Love the backhanders.

Overrated? easy: any board designed for hawaian waves, poorly manufactured without much supervision in china, and used in our crappy sloppy waves where I live :-)

Seriously, when I tried these kind of (very expensive) boards in our usual 4s period 1-2 feet waves, I thought I was on the titanic trying to dodge an iceberg 2 miles away with no avail.

I think it can go the other way: I imagine an hawaian rider would not be happy with a board with a high reputation gained by videos of aerials in small waves by a featherlight teen acrobat.

Underrated: boards really designed by a shaper who actually SUPs himself in your conditions with no team riders in contests

Rather than asking what's over rated, a more accurate question is what boards are not ideal for our waters.

The more I travel, the more I appreciate and understand why certain brands don't work in my home waters, but are ideal when I travel to their home base.

On PSH: from what I read, there has been very badly constructed bamboo chinese production boards that gave a very bad reputation to the brand in some places (the yellow boards are suffering the same reputation here now, it can happen to many brands quickly). Also the need to turn from the tail is not to the taste of everybody.

I'd be interested to know where you read that "badly constructed" bit colas.

Also by "yellow boards" are you talking Naish 'cos they seem well constructed to me?

I haven't ridden a PSH Hull Ripper, but I've had a good look at them... The design looks like it would turn really well (turn on a dime), and they look like a beach break specialist, or for waves of consequence, where you only want to control the power you naturally get... And surprise surprise, what sort of waves does Blane Chambers (PSH head of research, development, and shaping! ) surf, and test in!? North Shore (Hawaii) in some heavy duty shizzz!

My 2 cents worth!
