anyone know much about DC (dale chapmans) sup boards. Hes a shaper up on the gold coast and used to do sups for NSP....now back on his own ..

Might be better to ask if anyone doesn't know of DC..

IMO he's made more.. knows more.. and paddles more.. than any other sup shaper in Oz.. and probably the world.

he seems like a top bloke with plenty of experience, I was hoping might get some feedback form people who have his boards as Im thinking of getting one made.

I've had 2 "DC" boards, one of the very early 'Makaru' 14 footers and more recently a DC/NSP 14. I like 'em, they work for me - Dale (and his collaborators) understand Aussie conditions and what they call for in a board.

Mad if you don't.

I had a 14'er custom made a couple of years ago, I still have it, it's done 2 x National Marathons, 2 x King of the Cut's, 2 x Doctors and 100's of local downwind runs, flatwater paddles and training sessions.

I keep thinking about a new board but then think why, what else would I get, I'm fairly sure I will be doing them all again on it next season....love it.

I managed to find a good 2nd hand 12'6 DC for sale and bought that as well for bop and playing around in surf at the outer reefs.

If I recall correctly I think Stimo may have one or two of his boards, he seems to like em.

Very approachable and 'walks the walk' too, be it RACE boards or SURF sups

DC is the real deal. Makes great aussie boards that can cut it anywhere. Hi-performance or for the average joe.

Had a few DC's boards, both the DC models and the NSP/DC brand models, best boards around for all occasions, be it 14ft for flat water or marathons of 12'6 for bop or surfing, in fact the 12'6 is a cracker for surfing... then again the surf sups are pretty good for that too..:-))

Just noticed the Global surf industries website have a sale on atm, stupidly cheap surf sups...wife says "how many more do you need FFS?"...

Awesome guy, knows more about boards then most. Was a great experience making a board from start to finish with Dale, watching the process, and then the final product. 14 x 26 was delivered today and love it. I also have a 12'6 BOP board from dale that I bought 2nd hand, and it is great too.

Looks awesome Nickmcd! Tell us more about it - material, weight, volume, intended use, how long it took etc. I'm hoping to get a custom board by the end of the year and DC is top of the list.

Glad you like it SJKJ. I am really happy with how it turned out. I live in Brisbane and have a 2015 Ace, as do some of the other guys. Great board, super fast, however I find it a handful in really messy stuff. So wanted to build a board that had similar downwinding capabilities, but with a flat deck, and square tail, just to be a bit more stable...the other option was to buy a Fanatic Falcon 14x27, but thought why not do a custom, and see what comes out. (Plus DC boards have been on my wish list for a while).
The board is 296 litres volume, semi sunken deck, carbon construction, 14x26 wide. Brushed carbon finish, FCS deck grip, 2 handles on rails, no centre handle. Didn't go with super light carbon, due to the fact it is a downwinder and they get knocked around a fair bit, although I believe that is an option. Weighed it at just under 12kg with fin. Has a lot squarer tail than most DC boards, and is flatter across the bottom, which I asked for just to increase the stability. Had a heap of guys try it on the weekend and everyone loved it, some of the lighter girls felt it was a bit too buouyant for her, but at 296 litres that would be true.
Haven't downwinded it yet, but in cross chop, and upwind goes great, Super stable, light, and feels like it will do the intended job easily.
I really cant recommend DC highly enough, he did a great job, and the board is exactly how I thought it would be, and he never got sick of me asking questions, and changes things. Will give an update when I can get her out in the conditions it was designed for.

But what sort of money was paid, for this board (just ball park)

Horses, no problem, Full carbon same as this is $2900, just depends what options you have like paint etc, fins, deck grips, number of venturis and so on.

Thanks for all the detail NickMcd, including the diagrams. We've got similar requirements from a board so I might well be copying some of your design. I can tell that you're happy with it given the big grin you have in the photo.

you have a good eye i was lucky enough to get this off lacy best board i have ever had rails pulled in tight square tail truster set up only dale is building me a replacement he still has the file thin rails the go IMO

i have 2 DCs, an 8ft 2" and a 9ft. Both of these boards rip in the right conditions. i would certainly get another 1 when the time is due.
