Hi guys/girls I am a long time stalker of the place but first time poster.

So I have a age old question which board for my first? I have read researched an keep comming up with and that's confusion. A little bit of information of myself an what I have been looking at.

I am looking for a board to do everything (like everyone else) but 90% of the time would be flat water because I live inland the only surf time it would see is holiday time on the coast . I am 5'11 an between 75-80kg i would say my balance I pretty good spend a lot of time waterskiing/wake boarding cycling ect now for the twist... It must also suit the old mans sort of a shared toy (well I am footing the cost of the board for him pretty much) he is around 90kg 5'10 balance would be poor but he does kyak both flat water and surf he spends far more time on the coast than I do so he is likly to let his ambition outweigh his skills an be in the surf once he is able to stand an paddle. I am likly to either take the misses double up or even teach the mutt to ride with me.

So my experence Is almost none with sup except a few hires of soft top red back training boards an the two boards that I demoed today.
The boards I have been looking at are.
Sup atx 11'
Bic timber 11'
Nsp coco 11'
I did demo a sup atx which was nice I also tried because it was there a nalu 10'6 which I found was more stable an had more glide... Perhaps it was because the wind died down I got a little more technique I really don't know. I have looked for second hand there there is on here a fantastic fly 10'6 an also a nalu 11'4 for sale second hand how do these compare or can anyone else recommend a quality board that's near enough versatile to suit?

Thanks Adam

The 10'10" Nalu would be on the top of my list.. Welcome to the breeze..

I still have a 12 ft SupAtxkicking around that is about three years old and still in good condition barring a fin chop and a couple of other dings. It's an excellent flatwater board that can surf like a very long board. It's quite light being a shaped foam board (in Thailand I believe). They appear to be advertising on Seabreeze now. The Carbon paddle in the package is good in flatwater but only usable in surf. Depends on how much you want to spend. I just keep it for interested friends to borrow if they want. Most can usually catch a wave after a couple of hours on the flat dependant on experience. The 11 ft would probably be good for you, but at your weights checkout the 10'6" in the advertising on this site and demo if you can.

Davidjohn.. Thanks for the welcome I would love to buy a new 10'10 nalu but to be honest spending towards the 2k or my first board is a bit much obviously the nsp coco is similar. I was hoping to spend around 1500sh for board an paddle

Leory13.. That's some handy information I did test paddle a supatx 11' maybe I was expecting to much I don't know but it didn't really interest me maybe it's because I hadn't been on a sup for 12months. The problem is trying to find a test ride is almost impossible for me being at least four hours from the nearst shop that stocks any sups

I'm not sure what the Fanatic Fly 10'6 is like but I have the 11'6, and if it is anything like that, it is a great board. Looking at your height, weight and good balance, DJ's recommendation sounds spot on.
What about a 12'6 race board that can still be used occasionally in the surf? If 90% of your paddling is going to be flatwater, you might want something with better glide than surf orientation.

I thought they were about 1,500 new.. btw many sup shops have demos of it that they would sell you much cheaper.

Aramathin.... I did look at more of a race board/cruiser board but the narrow width and lack of lateral stability maybe they are more stable then what I was being told I don't feel like I was being sold what they had in stock because they did have a few race boards in stock.

Davidjohn.... I I'd ask about te piece of the 10'6" nalu the rrp was 1799. No doubt they would do something but I need to shop around abit more is there any shops you can recommend I have only been into ess at erina.

Ok. sounds right.. I think there's been a recent price increase..

I've been to many demo days and often ask people what board they like the most and it's usually the 10'10'' Nalu..

Another one worth looking into is the new Odysseus..

http://naishsurfing.com/ODYSSEUS-All-around%20Cruising/

I've not seen one yet but heard it's amazing.. and a very good price.

Apparently the 10'10" Nalu is about $1,650 and the new one [the Odysseus] will be about 1,399 and due in about 1-2 weeks.
