I have been looking at boards recently in the lower volume area and I have a question to the finer details of width and literage vs performance.

I'm wondering if you would notice a difference in performance if your board was 8'4x29.75 111L or 8'4x29 108L. Exactly the same design.

yes ..the width makes the difference ... .75 is quite a bit ,even half a inch makes a huge diff ..

In wave performance is it noticeable though or just all round stability wise.

My opinion in the same design is that 29 wide is a bit faster & a bit LESS stable when still.

yes exactly .but check the rocker line see if that has changed ,that make a big difference too,,my insane is 29,high rocker line , its fast and a little unstable but it compensates for being longer ,so makes it bearable ,placid, wider ,good stability ,but slower ,still rips though ..i think both those boards your looking at will be little pocket rockets,

It is probably just my age talking...
All things being equal, I almost always find better performance with more surface area.
It gives me more "lift" and "float" over weaker sections and keeps me powered up.

As I age, I lack the leg strength and quickness to give the "snap pumps' that rippers do when faced with soft spots on a wave....
the extra surface area helps make up for lack of snap in my legs.

Yes, but only in powerful waves.

Powerful = surfing at speeds where you begin to had trouble digging a rail.
