After my recent purchase of a JP fusion for myself I was so happy with it, and it encouraged my missus to finally try sup, so I bit the bullet and bought her her first ever board. Tough decision what to buy because Ive taught dozens of people to sup and recommend their first board but never had to actually purchase for a loved one. Well, she was doing great on the 10.2 fusion but it just wasnt "the" board for her IMO so after a lot of homework and worrying - I bought her a JP 9.9 wide body. BEST BEST BEST decision Ive ever made ! I paddled and surfed it this morning and it was instant FUN - someting Ive missed in boards for a long time.
Well, the boss jumps on ????? And shes gone like a bloody shot out of a gun - up the beach - down the beach - gone nuts ! So so funny to watch cos she was like a damn 10yo with a new toy. She told me it was a great idea getting her a bigger more stable board than mine and she is stoked (havent got the heart to tell here its actually smaller than mine )
Now I just gotta get her off it so I can play on it - it is a sic little beast.

Hey deano - the wide is 32 and holds quite a bit of width right through - it kinda feels discy but in a good way. Its a strange feeling board cos it paddles so well but you can turn it for a wave with 2 little paddle strokes and on the wave its so fast and loose and nimble and surfs like a 9fter - but the second you kick out its kinda that big stable safe stable cruiser. Im not sure how theyve done it so well - its a gem,

Pity you ran into problems as the new 9'8 Coco would be perfect.

Thanks for the feedback, Bill. Am looking to get my wife set-up with a new surf-specific board soon in addition to a longer board for me (which is easier to do, since I know what I'm looking for).

It's difficult getting into my beginner wife's head on the right design for her, she's not as demanding as I am and has been fine so far jumping on whatever board is available....all of my boards are pretty advanced but she doesn't care. She's just happy to be on the water.

Maybe I should just let it go and stop projecting onto her, but I'd like to see her continue to progress comfortably. Think maybe I need to adjust my attitude?

Mate, my girls never seen a surfboard or sup in her life and never paddled any kind of watercraft. She jumped on this thing first time and said "this a a great little board" - its funny because she knows zero about boards but just feels comfortable on it and she can carry it and load it herself etc - I think thats the key !!! Doesnt matter what board it is as long as SHE is comfortable calling it HERS.
