How heavy are you

It is a board supposedly for my wife,yeah right,I am 95 to 98kgs ,season dependant.Obviously the good lady will have most access to it ,but she likes to paddle around when it's flat.Now she has a really old 11'6" Nalu ,big and heavy so most boards will fit her bill.I think the 11' Nalu will be a good choice ( she is reluctant about disclosing her weight but I guess low to mid 60 kgs),but would like other opinions especially the surfing usage.

Jimmy Lewis Striker 8'11. Carves off the tail and when you get up on the nose it's stable and fast. The only SUP I know on the market that you can go sub 9' and still get a classic long board style. So much fun!

There have been some great new mal style Sups come out in the last 6 months. The new Lairds were the first to catch my eye and so were the TC's ,Sunova just brought out some beauty's as well as Naish and JP also have some new versions, so the list is big and now Dave Kalama has just launched the Imagine range which are sick. The 9-0 & 9-8 Impact are stand outs for me and if you want something a bit more stable have a look at the Imagine Icon 10-2 , there this a video review in these threads

If you are a old Mal rider you know what you like and all those boards above are pretty different , but on first glance outline profile the 10-0 Laird really grabbed my eye like the Imagine 9-0 & 9-8. Beautiful boards. I haven't seen or ridden the new TC's but have to say they really look the goods as well.

For your weight (and hers), it's pretty hard to go past the Naish 2015 Nalu GT 11' x 31". The GT is lightweight and rewards a surfer with longboard skills. I friggen' love surfing this board! If you have good skills and balance,and good conditions for surfing, perhaps the Naish 11'4" x 30" ???

I've got a 2012 Starboard Blend 11'2 x 30 that is great for longboard stylings. Apparently the new one is even better with the slight changes. I'm also looking for something longboardy but a little shorter and the new Imagine Icon looks good for my 110 kegs.

Long (10'), thin rails at the nose, narrow, no rocker at the nose, but heaps at the tail.

I would advise you go as narrow as possible. On longboard shapes narrowness (25" - 27") is easier to handle (especially with a big fin) than on "normal" SUPs and really make them behave like longboards, for a smooth style.
Plus they work so much better for flat water cruising.

Flee from thick railed boards, especially at the nose.

Absolutely loving my 10' laird surfer at the moment. Doesn't matter what i throw at it, just seems to eat it up. Had a great 3 hour session on it this morning on 4 ft to overhead, nothing phases this board ridden as a quad. Leads you to the next section no probs. My 10'6" nalu is my backup for choppier days and if i'm in the mood to ride long hollow right hand beachies as a twin. Haven't tried either of these boards as a single.....yet.

Boom Colas right on the money mate and the really early Lairds are just like that. are we going full circle...?

Thanks guys for the input.Colas I don' t know how narrow I would be able to go and still be reasonably comfortable.I am a bad combination of old,fairly heavy and tall.I am ok on the old Nalu which is 29 and 3/4 inches wide but really haven't surfed any board narrower than that ,other than my prone boards,which are all over 10ft ( in fact one is 11ft and the other 12ft Surftechs).But half the fun is trying to work out what will work best for what we like to do.Piros are you talking about the surftech laird pearson arrows,or the original Lairds ,which I think were Ron House?

The new Lairds - both the Hybrid and the Surf - are nice; the JL Striker and the Black and Blue machine are also good.

Narrower and thinner are best for real performance noseriding..

The new TC boards look interesting but guys here had quality issues with some of the other GSI boards. Hope that problem is solved. The DC NSP boards got soft sooner than you would like!

waxer, since we share similar stats, I figured this may be useful to you, if missed it on the longboard "Fin" thread

The model has been around a while, so it's an easy board to overlook

I was very happily surprised when I borrowed a friends 10'6 Alana (Nalu with girly paint)
I ran right out and bought one the next day.... 6 months later... still loving it... in all surf.

The vid shows the board in small, medium and OH surf.

The 10'6 Laird I compare it to in the video was the older Surftech model....So maybe not a fair comp to the newer Lairds.

Hey creek you made both boards look good. Liked the nose riding and off the lip sections.

I have the 11 4 Nalu GT and love the board....very much a old skool longboard feel.....very stable and catches waves very early. You wouldn't go wrong with the 10 6 if you wanted something smaller for the Mrs....but very surfy for you.

if you wanted something that was longboard feel but can really turn off the tail then the JL striker looks great to me....never surfed one but always hear good things....I have a JL downwind board....love it! I am 90 kg or a bit more. Not sure I would go for the JL Black and Blue, we'll certainly not the smaller one, as it is an out and out Noserider so a bit less forgiving for the Mrs?

Things really get complex when you put the jimmy lewis boards in the mix as well.Thanks Slab,would love to try the black and blue ,the longer version which is coming ,or maybe has arrived.Also apart from the dimensional difference how does the 11'4" Nalu perform compared to the 11',another question

let me put in another good word for the new Laird Surfers. Though I only weigh 175 lbs, i got the 10-6 x 32" one and, imho, it rides much shorter and much narrower than its dimensions suggest. Very easy to move it around on the wave. and as you might imagine, it catches waves like no one's bidness. Overall, I'd say I love the thing.

So what is this about a "rumoured Naish longboard"? Are they reviving the Nalu 9.0/9.6?
