I'm 95kg with winter clobber on and an intermediate surfer reaching age 50.

I surf on beach breaks that tend to get exposed to windy conditions - waves chest to head high and sometime a bit more - we do have good days but mostly the waves are not that powerful.

I have a longboard shape and a small 8ft 8 fish shape which is about 136 litres which I use on clean days.

Was looking for something fun and a bit more performance orientated but still stable. Stun Gun looks a great shape and was thinking about the big 9 7 one as it is 136 litres too.

Anyone ride one that can give me some feedback on the stability and use in average conditions?

Hey mate i own a stungun and a kwad both 8"7s both are great boards , both surf wicked in all conditions but as far as stabilty goes the kwad wins hands down!!!! By the sounds of the surf conditions you've described the kwad would be my choice

What is the rocker like on the Kwad?

The rocker on the kwad is little flatter then the stungun but saying that I've surfed the same waves on both boards and haven't really noticed it much , it's not until you really start chasing hollow surf with more power you feel the stungun being more sure of its self where on the kwad it gets a bit twitchy and skatey

110kg on a 9 2 I could do this on the 9 9 Mano :)

Way better on the 9 2 Stungun

Way slower than Stungun but more stable due to wide tail. ****e in big waves due to wide tail.

I have the 8'7" Kwad and the 8'7" Stun Gun. Kwad is a little more stable. It's a great, fun board but isn't great as the tide drops and the drop gets steeper due to the flatter profile.. The Stun Gun's ample rocker makes the late drop easy. Stun Gun is really light. Also it's 5 fin so you can go quad or thruster.... or somewhere in between like mine. The newer ones like mine have the ledge type handles which makes it easy to lug. Solid construction on both but the Stun Gun seems even more resistant to knocks. I love this board.

Thanks.....not heard a bad thing on these boards at all which is good.

I I guess at 95 kg I can float fine on a 9 2 but I don't wish to be wrestling on a board too much so would still love to hear views on the 9 7 and whether it is still a performance board.....just a little slower in everything due to bring a little bigger.

I would say it's the 8'7", but could be the 8'2, heres a pic to give a comparison between the 4 sizes.

Hi. I have had the 9'7" and the 9'2". 9 7 is very very stable in choppy and bumpy stuff and surfs very well. 9 2 surfs really well but wasn't that comfortable in chop for me.
I am an old fart tho and 95kg. Smaller board is much more responsive and just feels like a lot less board moving under foot. Late take offs OK and good drive on clean bigger waves. I don't feel they suit weaker waves. If mainly concerned with stability maybe the 9 7. If the waves are weak maybe the 9 1 Kwad. That is my view. cheers

Thanks - will be giving the bigger one a go......my current windy choppy bigger waves board is an 11 4 Nalu so I reckon it will be a change and a half. I'm told I am an old fart too....although in my head I am early 20s.

Wayne is riding the 9'2" in that clip, not too long after that he went down to the 8'7".

Well if that is the 9 2 then a 9 7 will be plenty lively for me. Thanks HGFish.....I know a chap who is a dealer who said..."that will be a 9 2 as I can tell how much the tail sinks with a bloke that size." He was right afterall! How big is Wayne...must be quite a biggish lad as he makes the board look small.

what I find interesting is he has posted on here that the Stun a Gun uses the same rock as the Kwad...just changed the rails etc. But most on here say the rocker is flatter on the Kwad.

Ha ha missed that. Yes long drive but worth the effort close to the beach too.

Wayne used to be the JL Agent on East Coast and he is 6'+ and about 95kg. Wayne makes boards for a living, he'd have an idea of what he's talking about. I had both the Stun Gun and KWAD in 8'7" and didn't really notice. The obvious thing is the fuller nose on the KWAD which may give the impression of a flatter rocker.
