A while back there was so much talk about the SPEEED. Sunova kept on innovating and the Speeed seems to be forgotten.
The first vanguard style board I tried was the Deep Miniun which was fantastic. Unfortunately it has become too heavy after many repairs, adding a tuttle box and so much surf time. The Speeed took its place and it too have been wonderful and still is. Wondering if any others out there still use them.

Tannaman, I bought a Speeed 2 years ago and rarely use it. It's fine on perfect days with no wind or cross currents, and it surfs wonderfully, but most days have some wind and, where I surf, choppy currents. At my age I don't want to waste energy trying to balance while waiting for the next wave. As soon as I can I'll sell it. Currently surfing my old 9'6" McKill. Stable, tracks well and still surfs OK. I'll probably buy something like a Stylelord 10' next.

I am about to buy one tannaman. Obviously I'm not a trend setter. I've been in need of a board I can take out in a bit of wind and lump when my normal goto board (jp surf pro) struggles. After demoing one, I'm finding the Speeed extremely stable, surfs nice as long as you get right back.... basically a fun easy board...just what I'm after.

I've still got my 7'8 & love it...such a fun little board...when I'm not foiling

Currently have two speeeds, 9'2 and 8'10. All I surf,can't see any reason to do any different. Know quite a few who think the same

Been on my 9'5 Speeed for a while now and love it. I certainly don't make use of anything close to it's potential, but I'm working on that aspect. It seems to be built really well, looks great (IMHO), is stable for me at 6'2 ~102kgs, and the few times I've pulled off a reasonable turn, it cranks around on that tail very fast (probably a bit too fast for my skill level).

I think at the end of the day, there are always going to be new designs, new ideas, new looks, and new trends - whatever works for you (in every regard) is what you should have :)

I was the original Speeed demon!
the tail is amazing, so I hacked it into the Creek.

I still recommend the Speeed to folks.

However I have a lot of designs that came out since, that get my attention on videos because they need love too

The Speeed is a timeless classic that won't simply fade away!

Ive been surfing my 10 foot mistress fairly regularly untill she was injured a few weeks ago and loving it mayb a bit big for me but so cruisey have jumped back on my 8.5 speed and wot a blast whip around cutties floatin off the lip making unmakable sections and so easy to paddle it was a blessing to have the big board outta action !

I used my 88 Speeed for the first time in over over a year a few weeks backs. The board is a bit big for me joe so I use it in small stuff . Would love a 711 now

I loved my 8'10 Speeed, thought it was a fantastic board. Read some of the reviews on here about it, sure there are plenty of threads.
I'd love a 7'11, it's on my list if I see one s/h... trouble is, there are so many boards in Sunovas lineup that I want more now..

Fresh 7'11" itching for isolation rules to lift.

Chasing an 8'8" if anyone has one in Perth they want to get rid of.

I was inspired to take out the 88 Speeed out today. Maybe I was wrong dating all those other girls over last two years . The old girl was so reliable today . So smooth .
I am almost ready to press button on a smaller version before the banks take my money .
An 8'2 or a 7'11 ??? Made a mistake about getting the 7'7 Flow. Hardly use at moment .
So if I find an 8'0 foot 102 L Starboard Pro reasonably stable (pointy nose and pulled in tail) would a 7'11 or 8'2 Speeed be the best bet ?
I usually go out in 2ft waves . 4 foot would be the maximum. I could go a Shroom or Smik Twin but something is telling me to stick with a Speeed .

That board looks ace in TR3 ^^..

I still love my 8.10 but went with pointy nose boards ( infinity blurr, smik twin hipster and gong curve)..and then the classic 10 longboard (sunova custom and fanatic stylemaster) etc....the question i ask myself is what conditions are the speed really for...i have a quite descent quiver and im sometime confused on when to use my speed....IMHO i think people in general purchased speed that were way too big to benefit from the speed particular shape....i still love mine but if i could go back in time i would take the 8 8 or 8.5...this board is way more stable than people realize....

Agreed. You need to get on tail. I am a very tall 161 cm so getting on tail of 88 is a challenge ....ok in small slow waves but not the case in faster waves ....hence I want to go to a 711 or 82. But regardless even in an overdose they are great when you need volume . They are seriously like butter in a wave . If you like to paddle forward when catching a wave , the Speeeds are much more stable than when paddling hard on a pointier shape. They also quite fast for a shorter board

Weight is about the same as the XXX construction and the durability seems super strong, so far.

Yep - you can definitely go smaller in the Speeed for the same stability as a bigger "standard" shape board. Like 4-6" smaller.

I know Casso. Volume to weight seemed right for me but I have really struggled staying on it . When I did manage to catch waves it was superb . But bloody too much work just trying to steady myself and I don't have time to put into it.

Yowza... the TR3 looks stunning!
I got a couple, but not in the Bronze look... that really Pops

I see more Speeeds than any other board where I surf. They are very common in WA (as Sunova's are here for obvious reasons). There's this one guy though on a Speeed that is way small and he spends his whole time desperately paddling to stay afloat before paddling like mad for any ripple. Understandable (worth it) if you're about to drop into a big steepie in Hawaii, down south or the Maldives, but trying to 'drop in' to a 1and a half footer off Perth, just makes me giggle.

It was interesting at the recent SUP champs here at Phillip Island that nearly all the competitors who were riding Sunovas were on speeds......except James Casey who was on his own line of boards...

To be honest, it can be fun and efficient as both a technical and fitness training.

Nothing like a good lockdown to want to be paddling on a sinking board even in ankle biters than another day of land training! :-)

I sold my 8'10 to a freind a couple of years ago. Reason? Well simple really.. My Speeed was my first Sunova (and not my last) and it brought my up through the stages of learning fast paddle surfing (I came from an F1 8'10 fish style, which I felt was a sticky and hard to turn) so I bought the Speeed based on the threads here... all the fans of them raved about them and I was an avid learner for those early "wobble/splosh" surfs.
I read a lot of comments about it being tippy, the 8'10 is a thinnish shape IMO and yes there was a learning curve that I had to go through.. but its was a great board for long fast bottom turns... It taught me a lot. As I progressed into smaller Sunova SUPS my mate said "selling it yet?" and I was reluctant at first, but as a few months went by I noticed I was grabbing my Flow 8'6 more and more... so I sold it.
I've had pics of my mate riding it, he was going through the same stages that I went through learning, and he's progressed really well and bought a Flash a month ago.

Great boards, I've lots of memories of my time on my Speeed...

Has anyone who hAs has a speeed, also has a hypernut or gulliver vbox, or hipster? I'd be intrigued to know how they all go. I've always found those tomo style boards go really well, but haven't had one with a tomo nose but pulled in tail before.

Bert and the crew via Sam at WSS set me up with a new 7'3 Speeed and a bonus 7'6" Flash in the new Ecotec. Stunning looking and both go amazingly well. Solid and very similar weight to previous Speeed. Stoked. Get yourselves some gear and support the industry legends in this tricky time that keep us frothing.

Like the yellow/maroon decked on that flash. The grey one look kinda boring on the tr3...

A 7'6 flash?! Yowsers! Looks epic but would be hard work!
