Am currently riding a converse 9' 30x starby which I love but looking for that next board. Wanting a surf only board, and ride mostly small surf on beaches and reefs around the perth metro area. Am 5' 7 and around the 65k mark and wondering where to head next. Thought the pocket rocket would be for me but wasn't keen after a test run.. Any thoughts? Am planning on keeping the converse for bigger, down south waves..

i'm 72kg and on the 8.5 pro, very comfortable, for w.a metro area, and considering your weight, try get get a demo on the pro models, 8.5 or 8, they are unbelivable!!!
you have to consider your skill level, but also how keen you are and how much you're going to improve in the near future...
i'm coming back down to perth from exmouth in a week or 2, i could give you a demo on my 2013 model, i might want to sell it to go down to the 8 or maybe 7.7, if i can get a demo on tthem to check stabily and paddling abilities...

let me know if you want to try it!

remember to demo as many boards as you can!!!!

Despite its comfortable volume I would also suggest you try the 8.2 widepoint. Its the most fun beachy board Ive surfed and at your weight you will find it very comfy in all conditions.
Contact Auswind in Perth about getting a ride on one.

After 2 sessions in the past week on a 9x30 converse I am now at a loss to understand why you would want anything else for the conditions you are enquiring about. This morning we surfed a 1ft reef break after a 500mtr paddle and the converse was the PERFECT board for the conditions and could not fault it in any way. The converse caught everthing I paddled for and was fast and so easy to control in what was at times very shallow and tricky conditions. I am a huge fan of the smaller starbies especially the 8.2 but it would have struggled today and I reckon I'd have battled to get onto anything and would have had less than half the length of ride I was getting on the converse.
Great board - stoked.

Yep can second that , Bill caught every wave coming his way and as an added bonus stayed dry for the entire hour we were out .

Big bonus on a day as cold as today .I wasn't quite so lucky and went into the drink a few times on my 9 2 PSH .

Just bought some new gloves on Surfstitch Bill for next time .
