Hi guys, Have been keeping an eye on the classifieds, a few good boards come and go, but hoping I can source something a little closer to home (Yeppoon). Am chasing a 14 footer with the emphasis on Downwinding in predominately choppy conditions, with a bit of flat water paddling also. I have been on a surf sup for about 18 months and am completely new to DW, so stability is definitely a consideration, however I am prepared for a bit of a challenge. I am 83kg.
I am thinking along the lines of: * 2013 Fanatic Falcon 14 x 27.5 * 2013 Starboard Allstar 14 x 27.5 * 2012 Starboard Coastrunner * 2012 Fanatic Fly Race 14 x 28 (maybe) * Or anything else that meets the criteria.
Am hoping I can source something reasonably local, to avoid the cost and inconvenience of freight and more importantly the potential for damage in transit. Also, I am hoping to restrict the spend not far past $1000. That said though, I haven't ruled anything out completely, so please PM me any relevant details.
Not much of a response thus far, are there any other boards in the 'must consider' category that I haven't mentioned above? May need to a do a Brisbane trip to try a few.
I reckon you would be hard pushed to get any of the boards you are talking about for under $1000. Maybe you should consider the NSP coco mat from 2013 (I think or 2012) Mate of mine has been paddling one for 2 seasons now and he loves it. They tend to be a bit cheaper but I still think you are unlikely to find anything around a grand.
Not really expecting the above models for under a grand, but would definitely expect some of them to be not too far past it, i.e. $1250 or so. Bris kites have got a brand new 2013 14 x 27.5 Falcon listed for $1350 for comparison, albeit the HRS model, and i also know of a 'well used' carbon Fly Race from 2012 for $800, so I don't think my estimates are too far wrong. Hardest part is finding something close enough to home. Had considered the Coco NSP, can get them locally (new) which is appealing, but I was hoping to stick with either Fanatic or Starboard. You don't really hear much about the previous generation NSP's, prior to DC's involvement, I hadn't really considered them as a possibility. I think there was a 14 footer listed in the classifieds previously in Victoria that sat there for a while and was either $1100 or $1000.
