I just felt like putting some info up before the video action...

I am impressed how true the 9'5 is to my 8'10 Speeed.
I needed a bigger board for winter gear and conditions....
But experience has taught me that bigger does not surf like smaller.

Happy to report that the big, comfortable 9'5 shares ALL the magic of the 8'10!

Now I can relax and enjoy the wintertime wind and wonk

I have the 8'10" Speeed and have just taken possession of a 10' x29" Style. I am wondering if I should have bought a bigger Speeed instead...

Now that I have worked his interweb thingy out just wanted to say thanks for all the YouTube vids Supthe creekAlso I started supping about 6 months ago on a 11 ft simplicity which I have totaly destroyed from surfing it ??And am now ready to move on to a pure surfing board . It needs to be tough as I am 6'3 and 100kg of pure clumsyness . I have been looking at the fanatic all wave the Naish xt and the starboards . Any help would be great cheers Kris .Whoops ! Forget to mention i surf Maroochydore river mouth mostly thanks again

Not sure what you mean with stability on flat water is different when in the surf however

Flowmaster... not different on flat-water vs ocean
It's just that I first paddled it in glassy, harbor conditions, and was more than a little surprised, by the initial "tippy" feeling.
The foiled rails tip easily, but have good secondary stability.
The secondary stability really comes into play when in surf conditions... it is very easy in rough conditions. I rarely fall over

I just want people to know what to expect out of a board.... it is different from the static stability of a thick railed, flat decked board.

krist... I had breakfast in Maroochydore one day.... and they put stewed tomatoes on my eggs.... I had to retrain them

It sounds like you may have seen my reviews of the Allwave and Naish Mana's.... they are all good stable boards.
Each one surfs slightly different, but great for us big boys.

The Speeed is more of a challenge to paddle and surf because it is designed for performance with thinner rails.

Go to my youtube channel and watch all the different reviews in one sitting.... think about your goals and look for the things you like in the videos.
That's how I pick my own boards.... videos show me what I need to know.... words are specific to the reviewer....videos are where the real info is.

Looking at where your foot are, like closer to the mid section, I would say stringer, but it doesn't have one.
I should have to re adjust a little, I paddle a lot surf style and wider apart, also closer to the rail and probably that has to change.

Caunting days before mine arives, cant wait.

Thanks for the review StC. I'm tossing up the 9'5 speed or a 10 evoke as my first step down from a 11'4 Nalu. I'm 6'5 and 95kg with no surf background. Have really enjoyed my time on Nalu in surf but it's a big board to throw around.

I know the evoke will give me the more traditional surf shape and I can save a bit of dosh but the sunnovas are such beautifully made boards. I have paddled the speed on flat and thought it very stable and surprisingly fast. Got to find some time to demo it in the surf before Santa comes. Hope he makes the right decision.

Excellent review as always Rick. I was just about to suggest that you start a YouTube channel with reviews and ancilliary information IE: How you stay so supple and fit at 60+. I personally think its because you're laid back and comfortable in your own skin. I noticed you said you already have a YouTube channel! You need to let us 50 and 40 year old groms in on your secrets (and other 60 +s)!! . You should get together with or, PM Robdog from down south who posts some amazing surfing videos on here and do some mature age supping and lifestyle videos. There's about 2 million+ middle to older aged suppers that would most likely subscribe for hints and potentially subsidise both your two adventures. I know it sounds far fetched but believe me it is possible in this day and age!! Even just a Facebook page with links to Videos. I've even got a name for you Sup The Creek and Rob The Dog .

tear all the water dams out of your wetsuit gloves..... they just make putting them on, near impossible.
Zippered booties only.... screw tweaking you back trying to rip off tight wetsuit boots after a long cold session. I simply step out of them
