Any large variations in temp, then loosen.
So Winter time no, Summer on top of the car or in the sun for a long period, yes.

Just loosen.. (half a turn) but most if us just leave them done up and tight 100% of the time.. Then there's no chance of being out on the water paddling and doing the big.. 'Doh!' .. Forgot to tighten my vent screw.. .. It will happen..

I bought a windsurf board in the UK and flew back to NZ with it but forgot to take out the vent plug ! Realised this just after take off and thought I have 24 hours to stress about this or not…so hoped that I hadn't delaminated the board in the hold at 33000 feet. Got to NZ and immediately inspected it and it was sweet. Phew!

My Fanatic ProWave doesn't even have a vent plug so go figure!?

YES, a lot dont have a vent plug.
please just use common sense, if you leave them cooking in the sun in 30 plu degrees then you will ask for problems...

if loosening better to fully remove and put a bit of coloured cloth in hole then you know it is out, big damage if you let your board fill with water with half done up plug..

me and mate left our sailboards in car one new years eve, very hot day next, did not get back to cars till midday, sailed and both boards popped their bottoms...

lesson learnt with heat/ plugs and alcohol!!!

Vent are useful while fixing the board: Open the vent to let the pressure atmosphere coming in or out like a breath so this way won't bubble trough ding repair while the resin is going off.
As well DavidJhon do, i tight vent screw rest of the time to prevent forget tighten vent being in the water.
I'm that kind of guy who forget his paddle so why not tighten vent as HumanCartoon reckons

I get annoyed if i have to walk back to the car to get a screw driver just as i am about to stick my board in the water, so i got a super short phillips head screwdriver and ground down the handle till it was just big enough to hold onto and turn with a bit of pressure. I keep it in the key pocket of my legrope so its always handy.

cheers chris

HI Craig

I have never had any ear probs being in the water until i started surfing a sup, and now i get an ear infection every year or so.
Do you wear earplugs to protect your ears?
I am thinking repeated falling from a standing position is causing water intrusion into my ears, maybe i should wear plugs?

cheers chris

Chris, there is some reading for you, there are many more, try google "seabreeze ear op" or slimular.

I have not had any problem with either ear for over 2 years, I find the pro plugs work for me, they stop water from being injected in a heavy fall.
