Getting a bit tired of the look of my old 2015 Naish Mana GS, and unfortunately a new purchase to upgrade is currently not on the cards. Besides which, she's still in good shape, I like the board, and it does what I want it to.

So the question is...if I were to change the deck pad (aware that's a pain in the ass from other posts but I'm willing to give that a shot!), give it a light sand down and re-spray in new colours (just for the hell of it), is the weight of a new coat/s of spray (plus a clear coat to seal it) likely to have a significant weight impact on the overall heft of the board? Given it's 10 feet x 33 inches, re-sprayed on both sides, it probably adds up to quite a bit of paint, but any input on whether it would become unusable due to that?

I'm not fussed about resale values of trying to keep it in factory colours as I'll likely be keeping it til it dies - I just feel like making it look like something I want to keep riding!

Basically every litre of paint you use will be 1kg in weight.

When you put it that way, definitely makes sense. Cheers - may have to rethink it or, go pad-less and use Hexa Traction or something light to offset the paint weight-gain. Thanks nosaj27

Not really, because the solvent in it evaporates. I think the solvent is 60 / 70% of paints, so 1kg of paint adds 300 / 400 g.

You will have to sand the graphics to get an uniform base, otherwise you will have to add more layers of paint to mask them.

I know that on Gong boards, one layer of paint adds about 300g on a 9'.

I read once that modern cars have 10kg of paint on them, down from 20kg thirty years ago.

Thanks Colas. Yeah will definitely have to sand back the logos etc a little more - I guess the trick will be not sanding too far into the gel coat

I like the concept where you take board to experts ......probably quite cheap and they have done it more than once or twice
