So shark skin, by natural design is the most efficient design for passing through water with the least friction and turbulence possible.
Seen under a microscope, it has a dramatic and unique design.


The US Navy engineers have realized this and made it the sole design principle for the USS Independence.












Surely we can expect the next evolution of Elite race SUP to take notice?

I think there are some significant design elements in the USS Independence hull that are far more intricate than the run of the mill trimaran existing of three slender piercing hulls.

George Lucas inspired starship. I don't see why not? There are a few catamaran style race boards that look functional.

Look at the last photo. The one of the bottom of the boat. The red painted parts - the bits that are actually in the water - are three slender piercing hulls.

I think it's just a trimaran.

The US Boat looks like a Craig Loomes design.

I suppose fitting a nuke reactor to a board has the potential to give it a bit of boogie.

Naval architects are very clever and all but they don't have a great track record designing paddle boards that people actually like to paddle.
