Looking to replace the stock fins that come with the Sunova Flow (8' 7) for something a bit smaller. I'm 88kg and find the fins a bit stiff.

Any suggestions, welcome.

Having surfed many different sunova models,the one consistent thing for me is the fins are way to big,and have way to much rake! IMO ! especially the longboard variants.I wonder if this is a design feature that Bert required,or has become a design laziness thing?this is not a sunova put down,but for a progressive company they don't appear to place much emphasis on fins for there individual designs( yes I know fins are a personal thing) if they put so much effort into fin placement why not on fin design that suits that placement ?who no knows they may go even BETTER.

Quobba is where i'd start looking...

Agree with the comments on sunova fins. The shroom is the only board I still use stock fins on... anyway this is what I'm running on my flow at the mo
quobba rear, C drive in the front ... works for me although will try quobbas all round next.

On my speeeds i swapped to c drives, couldnt believe the difference. Then gave the qobbas a go, i have never gone back to the cdrives.

What size qobboa would anyone recommend for a 9'5 speed? med or large?

large i reckon would be best...just put large quobbas on the 9'0 revolution

right on .i say to them when i get my custom board ,no need for fins thank you ..

i also find their fins too big for me ...just for the record I'm hard core

I usually buy fcs2 fins and then cut them out with a dremel to fit fcs1 plugs. This way you can choose exactly the fin size you are after ( fcs has a data sheet on cm2/sizes etc.. for each fin on their site)
Personally sunova fins are great quality for a included stock fin. ( they are almost same template as the fcs2 carver)
Here is a photo for a idea on my 5 day old flow2. I like big stiff raked front fins personally.

Running Machado twins (2+1) on my Sunova custom now and not looked back. They are the Black Stix versions so super fast but have a little flex in the tip.

Hey man..I run C Drives on all my sunova boards and Quobba fins on my 8ft JL Destroyer . Works really well for me

Really interested to try the C-drive and Quobba fins. Can anyone please explain which design does what? is either better then the other? l am looking to try them on the following boards
* 8'8 Infinity RnB
*9'5 Sunova Speed
*9'8 Sunova Flow
*10'0 Smik Stylelord
*10'8 Suniva Revolution

The fins that really turned my Flow V2 on, are small C-Drives.
Actually the center is a Pacific Vibrations "J-Drive" very small... almost tiny.

This loosened up the board and made it super fun!
I also get enough drive and hold from these small fins.

I tried bigger C-Drives, both as Thruster and Quads but didn't like it, so I went smaller and swapped out the center for the J-Drive.
I love it with these fins!!!!!

Definitely large I reckon.You could try a medium in the centre fin, I did, but I found it made the tail too loose, for me anyway, you may like it very loose.

Last time I was home we had some good head high to overhead walls, and I used Quobbas set up as a quad. They held really well on everything, and were really nice and drivey when I got my foot right back on the stomper.
Looks like it will be a fair bit smaller this break coming up, so will probably go for a C Drive thruster set up with medium to large sides, and a smaller centre.
Gonna swap it around with my hipster twin longboard to keep it fun too!

How did it go on the C Drive thruster set up?

I have the Acid 8'10 and tried a few different fins set ups but then I got the large Maui Fin Co V2 Thruster and they transformed an amazing board to an even more amazing board! They are smaller and flexier than the stock Sunnova fins. The performance is looser, faster and they keep turning with heaps of grip with great release off the top turn. I am a "Fin Head" as I reckon fins make up at least 33% performance of a board and the Maui Fin Co V2 Thruster are the best fins I have ever used!

Thanks for the link... I may have to try them, although I don't usually spend that much on fins, they are cheaper than most signature fins.
I like the sound of the flex... and my cheapo brands don't have that.

I had those on my quatro carve pro as standard fins these MFC's but I wouldn't say there felt so different than "normal" FCS fins. I used before Jordy Smith signature fins Large. The MFC tip of the fins is a bit cut off which gave it a slightly snappier feeling but almost unnoticeable for me as an intermediate supsurfer. The size and model was MFC T1 Large FTU RTM - CET, to be precise.

Stev0 have you tried the Quobba's as a "Fin Head"?

I have to admit ones you try those you will recognize the 33% you are mentioning, I'm just a happy customer like Brenno, Colas and many more, no affiliate or something for Quobba.

I have the 8'10 Sunnova Acid and tried a few different fin sets but then I got the large Maui Fin Co V2 thruster:
Developed with Kai Lenny, the V2 thruster set represents a new frontier in fin design and construction. Constant flex and a very fast profile allow for tight and fast turns on open face waves. You will notice that the center fin is slightly smaller in size than the side fins. This is an everyday thruster set that will work in most conditions.

Im playing around with similar fin set ups on my flow. Would appreciate your thoughts on the differences between the quobba and C-drive set ups also if you used as thruster or quad..which set up works best.... We've had ****ty swells through local break for a while and I bought a 9' revo and been playing with that and its fin set ups...need to get back on the flow.

Bomberdave, I love the Quobba setup as a quad for the bigger steeper days, plenty of drive, hold on the face really well, and an insane amount of speed. If you get right back on the stomper you will pull some really good big bottom turns.
The C-drives, which I have used on just about every board I've owned, are more fun on the Flow as a thruster in the small to medium stuff. I use XL sides and small or medium centre. I currently have this set up on my 10' revolution. I love the sensation of getting straight up to the nose as soon as your on a wave, and feeling the tail swing around and follow. Such great fins.
