G'day all, I've had my 9'6" X 30" 149L Atlantis Vex Profusion for several months now and I am wrapped with the performance of the board. The board comes standard with a 9" centre fin and 4 1/2" side fins (it has 5 fin boxes). I have had suggestions that I should part with some of my hard earned and upgrade the fins and I guess I'm interested to see how much the performance of the board will be changed. I've had no experience in changing fin arrangements other than moving the centre fin back and forwards in the box. From reading on forums etc. some of the options are :-

Gerry Lopez FCS GL-1 SUP - 5-Fin Set
Jackson Close JC01 Box Thruster
Stealth S9 5.25" 2 +1 Box Thruster Setup

Comments on the above and any other suggestions are welcome

Hi, I've got a Hokua 9.5 with the GL's. Very Happy! Using as quad only so far.

My suggestion:
- any good thruster set in the proper sizing for your weight will work (see for instance FCS size chart:
)
- a cheap option, if your current side fins are stiff enough (with fibers, not just plain plastic), just put a small center fin like www.surffcs.com/collections/longboard with your current side fins
- big fins like the GL will slow the board, but decrease the row.

G'day Colas, I'm tipping the scales at about 93kg and about 187cm tall. The centre & side fins supplied with my board are plastic and I'd rather go with a new set while I'm buying. I've been looking at the local options, what do you think of these in terms of size?

Put my Shapers S9's in and gave them a go this week. I must admit to being a bit sceptical that a set of fins could change the performance of the board, especially for an average surfer like myself ... pleased to say I'm no longer a doubter.

Tried them out in small 2 to 3 foot surf (I wasn't expecting to notice much difference in these small conditions) and found that the board drove much better through turns as well as being smoother yet responsive to control. I'm keen to get out in some larger waves .... but I'm sure I'm on a winner here!
