Been riding a 8'6 x 32.5 158lt slingshot Space Pickle. I'm an intermediate rider 85kg that can have long breaks between rides. Can be up to 3 months. New job is making it a couple of weeks now. Im not an every day rider.

Want it to be fun and relatively easy if possible. Ride 2ft beach breaks.

What I like about this board is I pull it out and away I go. I get a few waves and its easy to ride, Get out the back and turns great. It can be thrown around as well.. The board fells a bit corky. I could loose 10-15lt and still be good but could not find anything in the size around 140lt. I rode an 8'2 x 32 122lt JP awile back and could not stand on it in chop. Was mostly swimming :)

Im interested in a stubby style board but have No idea what sizing I should be looking at. As above the 8"6 is a good size but think I could get away with around 140lt.

Can someone help with sizing, litres I should be looking at. Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like your existing board is pretty close to what you need. I was going to suggest a Sunova Speeed, but my 8'10" is 130 litres. I am 5 kg heavier than you and I find the stability OK, but I may get out more frequently than you. It is 29" wide - maybe that is too narrow. My other stubby nose board is a minion - maybe you could get a bigger one of those, but my 7'10" would be too small - I don't like it in choppy conditions.

I went from a JP 8'2 x 32 124l Widebody to a 7'8 x 30 115l Starboard Hypernut, and found the stability very similar.
I reckon something like the 8'0 x 31.5 133l Hypernut would be around the right size.
If you think you need to drop 10-15l from a more conventional shape , then you probably need to be looking at dropping twice that if going to a short stubby shape.
Only way to truely know is to demo if you can. These stubby boards all seem to have their own very unique character.

I reckon that the 8ft hyper is too big for you and I would think at 85kg you would be a walk up for the 7'8. I agree with the previous comment though, demo demo demo

Your right Greg. I'm sure he could handle the 7'8. Just thought it might have been too big a step down from the Space Pickle

i was out yesterday on my JP WB 8'8" after about 20 surfs on 8' Hypernut and reckon that both are about the same stability wise.
I think a 7'8" or possibly 8' HN would be a good choice at 130 L depending on how much effort and what normal conditions are like. If you went with the 8' then you could always get out IMHO

I'm considering an 8'6" Hypernut @ 6'4" around 90-95 kg.

My height and skill level exclude me from the sub-8' lengths. My "go-to" short board is a JP 8'8' x32" and I surf cold, rough, confused and challenging conditions pretty regularly and have no difficulty on the JP.

I'm guessing the 8'6" Hypernut is essentially the 8' Hypernut plus 6 more inches.....they both share the same width and thickness, the additional volume is in the added length. I'd be looking for additional glide and speed.

Can anyone comment on performance differences between the two?

I will have to demo interstate I think. I have a couple of mates that have minions but they will be way to small for me.

I will keep looking and see what the future holds.
