I currently use a Bark Eliminator and despite feeling super stable on it, looking into getting something slightly slimmer.
After researching I am hesitating between:
Starboard Allstar 2015 14x28
Sic MAui x-14 SCC 14x28.5

Both board seem to offer the volume I need.
I mostly paddle on flat water but when racing it is on a side wave lake.

Any recommendations?

I think I'd lean towards the SIC due to their slightly higher construction quality and durability.. Both are great boards..

I have the SIC X-14 Pro 26" wide, and think maybe for flatwater you should consider that also (in fact didn't even know about the 28.5 wide version, I dont think we have seen it here in Aus). But if you are wedded to 28 wide then I 2nd the vote for SIC there are a great board and cut through the water, and love paddling mine, even surfed it in a bay wave the other day, when you get on the back it surfs unreal, and thats a big jump for me as i was wedded to 30" until a few months ago!

Both my 2013 AST All Star and 2014 Carbon All Star are both pretty bullet proof. Same factory as Sic, although the layups will very. Starboard being Cobra's largest Stand Up OEM gets dibs and priority on the best layup technologies. That said, x-14 over All Star for flat water only. Look at the Race or Ace instead. Volume is not as critical in the flat and the high volume in the All Star does not come into play until you hit the ocean, surf and chop.

I have the 14x28 Carbon Allstar. Hard to answer your question without knowing your weight. For me at 100kg it is incredibly stable. I have no complaints with durability and I don't baby my boards. I find it very quick in flat to small chop. Fast upwind in bigger waves. In bigger seas downwind I find the volume distribution a little wonky. Not enough in the front end, too much in the back. It isn't bad but I like the Ace better. If you are under 90kg I would try to find a 2014 14x26.5. It would be plenty fast and stable in flat water.

I am sure all those boards would work but they are all going to be for some pretty full size folks. If you are a bit smaller, you might find the newer boards are still stable in narrower widths.

I am 6'3 and around 225
My instinct is telling me to stick to Allstar as even if I paddle mostly on Lake Ontario it gets pretty choppy.
Besides reviews have been saying that SIC is fairly fragile which wont work well here with all the rocks we have.
Testing one tomorrow

Tested the Allstar all week and loved it. Insanely stable and super responsive. My choice!

Factory production SICs are not so durable as the custom ones. We have bunch of them here in Mallorca and experienced some quality problems especially on the standing area of the boards.

Carbon Starboards for last 2 years have good track record. The darker color protos/demos should be avoided. Those ones had some quality problems and weighed more.

I had x-14 and now have a 2014 Allstar. Allstar is better in mixed waters and x-14 is slightly faster on flat water.
