Hey guys. My man at Starboard sent me a link to the new range of Starboards for 2011. Its quite a selection but some standouts look like the new Widepoint design and five boards that are under 8' !

heres the link to the catalog and an image from one of the pages.

Yikes 151 litres, I can't wait to read the reviews, it looks interesting.

In view of the ongoing pointy nose/blunt nose debates I wonder whether starboard has a belief in the benefits of reduced area noses or is it a marketing ploy aimed at the pointy nose crowd [}:)]

I wonder why they make such huge litreages for high performance boards?

That's what I was wondering.

Is 32 inches wide and 150 litres really high performance??

It would be a great option instead of the 9 x 33 "hero" for big guys stepping down in size. I would have bought one if they had come out last year!

Here's the individual page links on one page:

http://blog.surfingsports.com/2010/10/starboard-2011-sup-guide.html

In answer to the volume question on the 8'10" Wide Point...this is primarily a shortboard style SUP for bigger guys...the pulled nose and quadfin option will contribute to it's adaptation for varying wave conditions...it is also a board that can be paddled more distance than low volume boards that go to beachies straight out...we have point breaks and reefs around here that require a little more foam under your feet to get there and back after a few hours of surfing while dealing with cross chop bump and high tide bounce...the volume is nicely hidden...the width allows for lots of curve in the outline...there is a bigger version in the line...and, hopefully we'll get a few others in...mid-9'er and a high 7'er...

Dave Muir (WA) and Pete Cox (Bali) have had good experiences on it...a bit more info and pics here:

There is also now a 7'10" x 32" with similar lines from another company...
