Not a huge drop and it's a very stable shape according to everyone that rides one. ( not me btw). I think they go even bigger if you are worried..all depends on your skills, fitness and how often you get out. You also have the option of getting a custom Hipster Twin eg. 9,2 x 32 if you wanted a little bit more volume/length.

Hey mate, the hipster twin is a very stable design and you shouldn't put too much stock in the volume. I'm 78lg and ride a 7'10 hipster 109 litres. It feels like a 120 litre board in terms of stability and I wish I'd gone smaller.

also; Scotty is a straight shooter. You can trust his advice 100%. He's in it for the stoke, not the business

I was 120kg and was on the 10'x30" 142ltr Hipster Twin Longboard with no issues. I'm a 52 years young very average SUP'er.

I've also got a 9' 5" x 32" 140ltr Bonza and 8' 6" x 32" 150ltr custom Mongrel. I've dropped down to 110kegs now and paddling is easier.
I would think the 8 x 10 Hipster would do you fine, You didn't say what length your current board is?

Scotty knows his gear and has been spot on when recommending board and size for me. Shorter length and less volume will just take a little getting used to but you are not dropping down that much.

You could also go down the custom route, have another chat to Scotty about what you looking for, could drop the length from current board but still have close to current volume if not too extreme?
I'm hoping to get a 9' 0" x 32" Hipster made in next few months(When finances improve!) I like to stay around the 140ltr mark, Perhaps if I got more water time and improved I might look at dropping lower, I also have long paddles to outer reef breaks so I like the volume for less effort!

Good luck, can not go wrong with one of Scotty's boards.

Current sup is a 9,5 ecs jackrabbit 159ltrs 31 wide
usually ride a short board when the conditions are not perfect but getting hooked on the sup the last month or 2 been getting out 2-4 times a week in any conditions.

Hi mate, I run at 6'2" and 95 odd kg, and have a 8'6" x31.5-134 ltr Hipster and it has plenty of volume. It's so stable I could easily down a size or two. My plan in a year or so is to downsize to the 8x30.5 118 ltr.

So I believe you will find the 8'10 pretty comfortable as the shape is very stable and 145 ltr will float you easily.

More importantly you will have so much fun on any wave you ride.

I,m 188x95 kg (49y old) on a good day and most of them with a full hooded winterwetsuit 100+ kg and i,m really happy with my Hipster8.3x123l
It might be a tad small for a 2th board, but the 8.10 is on the save side of things. A friend of me is your weight and using an 8.6x134l. Works great as well.
The boards are stable, paddle well and adding more volume doesnt ad a lot more ease in use.
Personally I think that in a general rule of thumb something with average shapes and between +20 and +30l above your weight is for most people an optimum balance between performance and ease of use and +40 as the max.
I can boards around my weight, but they are freaking hard work and the wearing out doesnt make up for the waveperformance while an too thick and corky board sometimes feel less stable as boards that sit a bit in the water

I am almost the same size as you, but around one inch taller. Judging by the 82 in your nick, I may be a few years older than you, if that is your birth year.

I recently got myself a new board which is 8.8 and 140 litres It is not a Smik, but I would say that this board is too easy for my size. I have another board which is 133 litres and after a few fights we eventually came to an understanding. 145 litres will be plenty enough for you for a really easy time.

You could consider even smaller, like the other posters have suggested above. I am thinking 130 litres, or even 120 litres, for my next board.

I have the 8ft Hipster and Im 80kg, 5'10 and fairly experienced. Stability is great and can take the board out in all conditions. I could ride smaller in glassy conditions however very glad I went for the 8ft when I'm in the choppy onshore crap . I think the 8'10 would be a safe size for you, depending upon your experience you could also possibly go smaller to the 8'6. The trick with the hipsters for max stability is to stand further forward with a slightly staggered stance as the volume / width is in the nose. Whichever size you go for I'm sure you will have heaps of fun! Highly recommended

Before this board my smallest board was a 10'5 x 32'3/4 and 190 liters with a longboard shape.
I didn't want to go on the 9'3 because I wanted to ensure very good stability and comfort to be able to stay in the water for a very long time (2h30/3h) without getting too tired.
And really I'm super happy with this custom, as I wrote in my post the adaptation only took me a few minutes.
Given the shape of your Jackrabbit, its width (31') and its volume (159litres) I think you have 2 options, either the 8'10 x 32' and 145 liters or the 9'3 x 33' and 153 litres.
Now to see how you feel on your ECS, if you're good on it and it seems "comfortable" to you, I think you should listen to Scotty and go on an 8'10, if you're on the edge of stability and you're looking for a little more comfort leaves on the 9'3.
But really you can trust Scotty with your eyes closed, he knows his boards and his shapes better than anyone, you really won't be disappointed!!!

Hi mate,
I'm 6'2" (shrinking as I age), and hover around 100kg depending on the season.
I don't have a hipster twin, but do have a hipster twin longboard which is something you may want to consider. It is 9' x 28" about 125 litres in volume. I'm pretty sure I'd struggle on a 28" wide hipster twin without that bit extra nose area that the longboard shape provides.
I'm waiting on a 9'2" x 29" 124L of the same board. Scotty has assured me that they've refined these boards since my first one which has copped a beating from various people, mainly myself. Still a great board though. The new one should rip even harder than my current one!

Hi Steve. I am looking at a custom atm. I am 6'2 and 100kg. I have the stick 8"10 which is easy but looking at either 8"4 x 32 or 8"6 x 32 both at 140L. Any recommendations on to go 8"4 or 8"6? I also have a 8"8 starboard splice so leaning towards the 8"4.

The 8'6" x 31.5 is very stable to paddle and at your 105kg it would be nicely controlled on a wave. WSS have one at a great price atm.

Hi mate, sorry for the late response, we are down in Victoria on the great ocean road heading to Adelaide, so I have been off for a few days.

Great surf down this way at the moment, and I have no boards

I vote for the 8'4 as you know how to surf, and the 8'6 will probably be too similar to you current boards.

You could also possibly drop the volume down into the 130 something range and not have too much problems with that.

My two Smiks are 130 ltr custom Mini Style Lord and 132 ltr Hipster. I am only a few kg lighter than you and these two easily float me.
