I'm looking for a comparison between a 9'3" x 31.5= 160 litre JL Destroyer and a 9'2" x 32=145 litre which I ride.
Similar numbers with the JL with more litres which I think would make it more stable,but do they feel corky.
Any info on the JL would be appreciated. Has anyone ridden both?

Well, it feels corky because it's ... the cork effect :-)

Lateral stability is given by width.

Volume is more complex, with basically two thresholds, and plenty of various side effects:

[1] enough of it not to sink: Some part of the deck is out of the water

[2] enough to have the whole deck out of the water, even at the tail: the less possible drag when paddling, and the bigger "stable spot" lengthwise to stand on it.

Are you talking about a smik hipster? I haven't ridden a smik but I have owned a smaller destroyer. The destroyer will very likely be more stable if that's what you're wondering. Is the 145 unstable?

are you sure about the 145 L, my Smik is 9-0 x 32 and has 132 L, Rails and part off the deck are wet and my weight is 90 Kilo

My Smik doesn't feel corky,but my previous fanatic all waves did.

The Smik is a mini style loard custom, had some more litres put into it,at times it feels unstable.

Is there any way to demo a destroyer? It's a good board and will likely be more stable but that style lord you have is also a good board. Maybe you could get something shorter and wider for smaller wave days and use the style lord when the waves are cleaner.

I don't know if this will help but I ride the 8'5" x 30.5" 130L JL destroyer as a relatively competent 80Kg 174cm guy and I find it barn door stable, can run around on it almost, I use it on small days/choppy days as a mini-mal type board (around Cottesloe etc) would highly recommend. 2 notes, I do not use the original fins (not enough grip) and I know the blur says it is an all around board but I have had it out down south in bigger surf, chunky head to head and 1/4 high waves, really not fun!! May be OK in a smaller volume but at this size/volume, not a fun experience. I would highly recommend this board though, can paddle and catch waves well is stable hope this helps.

Well, 130/80 means a guild factor of more than 1.6!
This is quite huge, a value more adapted to advanced beginners.

No wonder it feels like a barge and limits you in bigger conditions...

That's what is good about it, it is still very surfable, can turn and carve. Other boards I have ridden in this volume really are barn doors!!!!
