Recently took delivery of my first SUP. Not a good experience. The box was undamaged the board was wrapped twice in bubble wrap. The board has two scratches deed enough that you can stick your nail in a small gouge in the top, black marks on the side rails and two areas of the pad are starting to come up.
My GF had the shipper help her pull it out of the box and he saw first hand. She took a number of pics and sent them to me - I forawarded all the pics to the retailer and asked if the board was used. He said no it's brand new.
Retailers resolution is a $50 credit and he will send me some putty and 600 grit sand paper.
I've had freight damage on a couple of boards and my retailer and the distributor had no hesitation in offering to cover the cost of the best repairer in my neck of the woods. It ran to $100 both times. Your retailer should have insurance for shipping damage if he/she is unable to claim it from the transport company. The solution you've been offered is not good enough in my opinion.
