I was thinking of either tying a strap around and around it or maybe sticking something inside the cover/bag?

Duct tape, fixes everything,

watched an episode of mythbusters where they built a canoe out of duct tape and paddled off into the distance

Either tie a strap around the bag itself or get some elastic straps - you may have to test placement to get it to work properly. I have a very low roof-rack so its a constant issue - but the straps work.

Another tip for tie-downs straight on a board with no bag is to twist it - then it doesn't vibrate and will be quiet.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll have a look at Tape but don't really want the dirty old sticky sh-t on there after so maybe even send it down cover less. Just glad i know have a few good options that have been tried and tested..

Small surf at Middleton Beach I'm hoping to hone my skills a bit more.

This will help heaps.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/SUP-roof-rack-pads/

Thick roof rack pads will lift the board and flapping board bag away from the roof of the car.

I used to have the same problem with windsurf board bags, and be warned that the rubbing of the bag on the roof can do permanent damage to the duco on your car. So if you have a nice newish car maybe something to think about.

I fixed the issue by putting a stretch cover over the padded one for long trips. The bag was he'd tight and the material on the stretchy wouldn't damage the car. I never bothered for short round town stuff as I only used bags at the time on longer trips and when I wanted some protection for the board.

Yes I know that feeling, driving down south for 3 hours with an ever increasingly annoyed wife! Extra straps help, but only if in the right position and the right position often moves !
I ended up with a unique solution. I bought a second board in carbon, so now I use the older, longer board with the neo camo deck, face down on the roof racks, no cover and then put the more expensive carbon board on top in its cover.
A somewhat expensive solution but the upside is no more flapping covers and two boards instead of one

That's part of my problem, i worried it the straps move then she won't stop and fix it. See she and kids are driving down i'm flying down a day or two later. may even just send it Nude

Another question is its bright red, should i be releasing the vent screw at all I always thought the cover would help with the heat and sun..

You can put extra straps or rope or gaffer round the board to hold the slack up.

For our trips down the coast I put a boogie board inside the SUP bag on top of the SUP. It fills up the space nicely and pads the SUP from the other boards on the top.

You could probably fit a short board in its bag inside the SUP bag.

Great soution^, but if you can't do this then rip off a neighbours fence paling and stick it between the racks, with your board on top

Mate your going to Albany...
Heat and sun are non-existant down there. Keep the bung in it will keep the rain out.
Have a look at Nannarup and Muttonbird while your down there.

All loaded with no bag. A mini mal and shorty on top. The sup takes up nearly the whole width
