Great pics. Nice to see the FX being raced too.

I wonder why Caspar would use a Jav Maliko when the other Naish guys have chosen the Javelin.

Compared to the skyscraper FX, I luv the looks and low volume. Wouldn't want fall on those rails though... ouch!

Hopefully everyone will want a dug out so there will be lots of cheap non dug out boards going

im pretty sure not long a ago i said it won't be long before the fx has a recess.

Exciting to see SIC extending their range as they already have awesome DW and flatwater boards, and the FX for all-around.

I do agree those rails at the rear look thin (strong enough)?!
And I agree the SIC boards always seem to look slick and nicely finished, simple and clean.

I have read this is one of 3 prototypes so will be exciting to see how this board evolves into the production shape.... do you guys reckon the dugout would be better with a slight square tail, or keep it a pin tail?...

Are we looking at the same thing? I don't mean the place in the middle of the deck towards the front of the standing area - where SIC usually put their vent plugs. I mean way ahead of the standing area towards the nose but right out towards the rails. It looks like maybe there's been a ding and someone has stuffed some chewing gun in there.

It's strange though because I can only see it in one picture. The first pic in this thread doesn't show it. I think it's only visible in the sixth pic of the whole series that Supersize posted subsequently.

I'm thinking its damage or ding..

It looks like a chunk of sand to me, especially considering it isn't visible in any of the other photos.

I'm guessing some local has simply cleared their nasal passages all over it.

Has anyone ever tried a dugout shape that isn't a dug-out (if you see what I mean). The Mistral Equinox for instance is an Ace-like shape (in the nose, anyway) and is a highly effective raceboard that seems fast in virtually all conditions. But when using it I wondered how much more I'd like it if it wasn't (such) a dug- out. If this SIC had it's standing area 2" taller, and it's sidewalls 1" less tall and a little more rounded, it wouldn't really be a dug-out. How much less effective do you think it would then be? The problem with dug-outs is not only the shin factor, it's also awkward transport, awkward carrying, extra fragility (you tend to acquire damage on those rails when eg. getting to your feet or back in the boat), and extra inconvenience (with dugouts you can't easily sit on the board dangling your feet over the side if you want to take a rest). And then there's the two killers if you are a racer: if the board flushes with water when eg. going out through surf, the board turns into a very heavy shallow paddling pool and you stop almost dead for some time, and if you are doing repeated beach starts dugouts are a nightmare of awkwardness and banged limbs.

So you pay a heavy price for the dugout. Yet very often you aren't standing *that* much closer to the water than you would be on eg. a Bark Dominator.

So, it seems to me that dugout designs so far have conflated the dugout nature of the board with the nose and tail designs, which are a positive. And I'm wondering what an almost-no-dugout Ace would be like. Would it really be so tippy as to be unusable? Do those sidewalls really need to be that thick? Would this SIC really be so much less effective if the standing area recess was more gently sloped and shallower? I have no idea, but I'm guessing that someone here has experimented.

In other words, are these dugout designs unnecessarily extreme?

That is a prone board, just saw the almost finished product glassed

Always loved the ACE. Had a 2012 and 2014... If you're looking for a non dugout, similar outlined board, I highly recommend these... Since I've starting riding the DEEP Oceanboard I haven't looked back...quicker, very stable, effortless on bumps and much more user friendly...

The 25" has been the fastest board I have paddled so far on the flats - for a 95kg bloke! (even faster than my current Custom DC Flatwater 14x26!!)
The high volume really suited my size. Except in the ocean where I struggled. Hopefully the 27" will make it as my all round board.....

Interesting to see if the new team rider Caio Vaz has had an influence on the new Triton wave boards ?

Why do the new FX Tour boards have the FAST steering system? I understand its purpose for downwinding, but touring??
