Im going to Thailand with the guys from SIC in Hawaii in about 2 weeks time. We will be finalising specs and construction then. We have a few different constructions to test, so after I return, will be able to give you final info. All 4 new models will be available here in Australia pre Christmas.

Hey Scotty, sorry about delay in reply, we are a couple of weeks behind - all 4 models getting tested 3rd week of November. Mark from SIC has had each size manufactured in 3 different constructions, after testing we will decide the best for each board. Will keep you posted...

i had a naish and it was heavier than that, more like about 17kg. look it a very good board, works a treat in the big stuff, but for me, if it was 14.5 kg it would be a great board.

Just weighed mine straight off the water with both steering arms, wet deckpad and leggy at 16.1kg. Is it really that bad?

is it really that good?.i notice it compared to other boards. i weighed the one i had once and it was 17 kg plus. in medium/ big the weight isn't noticable. anything else without that push you feel it. probably why it isn't that good in the flats even though it's reasonably narrow and there is still a good lengh of waterline. in the big stuff- first choice board. as i said bring one out lighter and i be the first to sign up. 'please do it mr naish'
cheers

I understand where you are coming from but the point I was trying to get across was how does that 14.5kg weight for the SIC stack up when it's wet, with leggy and maybe with rudder. Is the difference as much then?

Sam.

The reality is that the SIC's that will be sold in oz are still in prototype I believe at the cobra factory and the final weight at this stage is probally unknown. The 14.5kg quoted for the SIC i believe is fully fitted but dry.

The main point of the comments re the naish 17 weight is;

The 17 naish, while I understand is built to be durable and manufactured to a price, is a bit on the heavy side. As this board is marketed and sold as a full blown racing board and the feedback from alot of racing people (and me) is that it would be a fantastic board if it was lighter. If the SIC ends up @ above 15 kg, then the comments would apply to them aswell. I have heard comments that some people have weighed the naish 17 at 17 kg plus aswell?, maybe you have a lighter one Sam?
I never weighed mine, I wish I did.
Thats all Sam, nothing sinister. I would appreciate if you could ask the naish guys if the 2011 naish 17 is lighter than previous?

Thanks,
Scott

Ok, I got the answer i wanted.
Naish are working on making there race boards a bit lighter BUT will not sacrifice durability to get it!!!

This is good as I'm sure if you have had a custom race board you know how careful you have to be and i would hate to see these boards not be able to handle a flogging as mine would always need fixing with how rough I'm on it.

One thing you have to think about is that the Naish 17 has been pretty dominate in DW racing overseas winning most of the big races and these are stock boards not customs. Danny ching chose the Naish 17 at the Hawaii BOP long course because it would paddle the flat water section of the race the best( this is what i read or heard) so if they make it lighter would i swap mine to one, yes but is the board still good the way it is? Yes.

thanks Jakeo, but;

1. they have been making lightweight & durable windsurfing boards at cobra for years, its hardly re-inventing the wheel, what gives? are you taking the piss?

2. you got the answer you wanted, i didnt. is that for 2011? do i need to ring up every three months and ask if the latest shipment is lighter?

3. i have a custom race board, i am not ruff on it. your parents should have taught you to look after your toys.

4. i am not Danny Ching, sure he is a nice guy who makes great choices

Hey scotty
Not sure about the windsurfing thing too much but are those boards $$$$$, i think its about making a tough, yet keeping it affordable as well. I bet they could make them lighter now but they would come out to $$$$$.

I wish i had more info for you on this but i don't i know they are trying alot of stuff and will only release some thing when it is right!!! I am sure that if they made them lighter now and they feel apart quite easy 6 months down the track you would be more pissed off?

I am sure when they have something we will see it.

I know my mum was too easy on me!!! i am always putting my boards down on the concrete or just chucking them on the back of the ute and love the fact that i can be a bit rougher with them but maybe thats just me!!

Once again sorry for not telling you want you want to here, i am very lucky sometimes that i get told some advance stuff and if i am aloud to share the info i will but if it's not aloud out then i will say nothing.

I know you are not Danny Ching i heard you are bigger

Hi Scotty,

No stress . What would people pay for a lighter version? For a worthwhile saving I'd guess retail could head towards the $3500 - $4000 range. Not quite as accessible as the current $2799. Maybe 2 constructions would be good even if hard to stock?

Sam.

Maybe Sam,
I am just looking at it selfishly from a customers point of view. Probally from $2,700 to $3,200 would be worth the money for 4kg less weight????????

Hey Jacko,
I am not big, just a bit fat

Cheers all.
