I am pretty new to the sup movement so still figuring a heap of things out. (73 kgs, mostly a slower beach wave upto 4ft. I use an 8.10 LSD, 115 liter) Getting there so the next one is fins to sqeeze the most out of the waves. I have been reading all the topics but I was still wondering about a few things.
I have been looking at the shapers fins as the local sells those. (also been reading positive things too)
. recently changed to a quad set up. Used it a few times and the standard plastic underneath probably isn't anywhere close to high end fins.
Keep in mind I am mostly on a semi clean gutless beach wave that I am trying to make the most out of. mostly 2-3ft at best most days. I will live with the consequences on the od bigger day.

= Yesterday I felt, while on a messy beach wave, that the board was going with the wave a lot. Would better fins create more speed down the line?

= Do you tend to go bigger or smaller on a SUP compared to a surfboard?

= On the shapers site they define a few things like drive, flex, release, pivot. I assume I am looking for maximum drive to get more speed out off the little wave to be able to pull off some turns etc?

= Is quad then the way to go? (the board has 5 boxes so many possibilities)

I know try, try, just need a good base to make a decision on where to start on size and set up.

I just fitted Shapers S7 quads . Really makes the board hang in on the wave as well as good drive. I fitted the small Darc drive centre fin which I feel helps to keep the board straight when paddling for the wave. It may not be for everyone but It gives me a feeling of control and stops the board yawing. (5 fins in all) I'm getting beautiful carving turns and you really notice the difference in the flex of the fins.

Been having a blast riding both my boards as Twin Fins.
Me= 109 kg.....total weight with wet, full winter wetsuit

8'11 Hobie CM Raw @ 123 ltrs
8'10 Allwave @ 145 ltrs

I got some deep/wide base side bites and started to experiment.... blown away by how loose they are and how much drive I can get out of the wide base. They paddle well, offer better speed paddling and surfing. Very happy with them in both boards.

I have ridden both boards in head high + and juicy.... they worked great.

Sounds like a perfect match for your conditions.

Opps... I forgot.... in a 5 box setup, I would put the twins in the forward side bite position.

Thanks for the heads up on the twin fin set up STC. I was wondering how the Allwave would go with just two fins on the side. I picked up my 8'10" Laguna Bay Executive on Tuesday and I am looking forward to some decent surf. I took it out single fin with just wax on the board in cross shore crap and still managed to catch a wave on it. Very loose with just the single fin in!! As they say in the classics Froffin!! Twinfin is great but twinzer are wonderfull, this my 8'10" 100litres goes wonderfull up to 5 foot in mellow beachbreak condition because of its flat rocker and width pull back.
TWINZER got every thing good from other board's setup: loose from twin, drive from single and thrust of the 3fins

Just fix a set of fin plugs behind the front ones and you get the twinzer.

Great idea! never thought about that but it will indeed put you back foot over your fins pivot point much earlier.
The wider base should give the same drive as 4 smaller fins combined.
Will start looking for something with a wide base. @ 73 kgs I probably will get a away with a bit smaller than what you have.
My local has an exchange program. Fore a small fee you can try, return and try etc till you find the right ones. Will try this set up first up.

Have you ever tried this with a nubster in the fin box?
