Guys,
Is anybody using the QB Super Fly? Interested to hear people's views.
Had a look at one in a shop recently and it felt really good, I particularly liked the smaller diameter shaft, a bit of flex in it as well as the overall lightness.
I am 83kg and have just started paddling a 14 footer, have been on a surf sup for 2 years or so, but trying now to focus a bit more on paddle technique on the 14 footer.
I am long overdue for a paddle upgrade, I am thinking along the lines of a smallish blade and still retaining some flex in the shaft…. Would the above be a good option?

Thanks,
Scott.

Hi Scott,

The SuperFly 92 is a nice paddle with one of the softest flexes in the All Carbon range. The blade size is about right for your size and if you are looking for flex, you'll get that too. I think the shape of the blade isn't as good as the new V-Drives and other more modern paddles if you are looking at the current trend of slick entry and exit from the water and good catch from a smaller blade, but having said that. The AC Kanaha range is still a bloody good paddle and if you are a fast and hard paddler, the paddle isn't going to stop you winning races. Find a paddle which suits your style and stick with it. Hone your technique and you'll be all good.

Try and demo one if tou can. The Fly paddles from QB are generally aimed at women paddling, with smaller dia for smaller hands and softer flex, but hey, if it works for you, go with it man!

Thanks John, that sounds good mate, would like to try it for sure. I had planned on getting in touch to see if you wanted to go for a paddle one of these afternoons anyway, but work is getting in the way at the moment. By the end of next week I will be in a better position to catch up.
Regards,
Scott.
