Riding my naish hokua 9'10.........have the rear pair of GL sup quad set.
Wondering if any opinions on suitable replacement for the front two fins?
Poor man's way of buying a new board really "use it as a quad"

I always keep coming back to these.

Ask friends or big guy surfer who can give you spare fins , you know sometimes people loose one fin of the pair and get spare one that way which can be give for free so put the larger one on your back side and the smaller on your front. The larger one can be a MRx as riverider said and the other H1 or any other large fin.
For the rear one of your back side remove the GL to a M5, so it will be stiffer on your backand because we use to get more stance on backfoot surfing during backside surfing.

these were among the fins I found to be snappy
Been using the GL rears as sidefins.......they been bulletproof

Yes but my roof rack system was flawed and in fact self destructed......but fortunately not while the boards were a part of the equation

yes I reckon, put a M5 instead of GL or some thing of this size on your naish hokua 9'10, specially if you are a "large" guy. Do it on your backhand side because this rear side of the board stands more weight than the forehand side where the weight is standing on the front fin.

Think the shapers S9 carbon fins are the best option.....but not dirt cheap so still considering purchase

I recently tried Shapers S7's quad on my 9'6 Fanatic Prowave and they were good to a point. But there were issues further down the wave.
I then bought some S9's thruster and they were much better. More control and a much more comfortable feel underfoot.This is secret mens business.
My wife will divorce me if she knew what I had just spent on fins.

Yes if I mention the price of fins to non surfers they just look at me like I'm crazy......and then if you try and explain the difference between riding a thruster and a quad

I ride the same board and recently converted to a quad. Went with the FCS SA-2 Simon Anderson Quads and put in a knubster (based on Zeusman's comments on an old thread).

Loving the way it rides. It's my first time on a quad so haven't got any experience to draw on but I find it much looser on the wave. My turns are better (although I never was very good at surfing so it wasn't hard). and I haven't lost any real straight line paddleability.

All in all, I'm very happy with it and now looking for some steeper waves to try it out in. should be fun...

Remember visiting Maungamaunu near Kaikoura south island NZ. Its a right hander point break which can break quite a distance (pity about the snow on the hills in winter)
Anyway he had taken off one of his sidefins (leaving the centre fin and the sidefin closest to the breaking wave)

A really good deal from this Hamilton company Pacific Surf.........for nz people......$129 for the S9 carbon thruster set including shipping

My new S9 thruster set arrived in good order and in good time...........held one up next to my GL quad remaining front quad fin.........they look identical except for the colour.
Go figure.......very happy to be returning towballs fins without snapping them

I don't know Kami ......if you were riding a big barge of a sup you might think it needs the stability so essentially turn it back into a single fin by putting the largest fins at the rear?

Not the larger at the rear of the tail, sorry my english is bad,
I mean rear quad 's fins assymetrical; for example: put the GXQ of the picture on your back side rail, GXQ is larger than the aqualine back fins wich is on fronside rail , so this way to organise fins with what you can find around and make your board looser on front side and I get a board stiffer on backside.
