DW, distance and flatwater. My old Naish Kaholo extension keeps slipping through it's clamp - time for a new paddle. What are the current recommendations? How does an oval shaft compare to a round shaft? Your advice and experience appreciated.

I can't advise with experience/knowledge on new paddle, but I too have a naish paddle that has a bunk clasp design. (Older, pre non-twist naish designs don't seem to) Full credit to Hawaiiheke, who advised that some tape around the inside shaft will solve it. I used that brown wide packing tape. Hawaiiheke used clear selley's tape I think.

Or you could just turn it into a fixed length paddle and epoxy it together..

You should also concider the same paddle in a fixed length and keep the other as a back up adjustable..

As far as other brands go you have heaps to choose from.. I'd recomend the bigger brands like QB.. KeNalu.. Werner.. and my favorite.. KIALOA..

Yup. Had an adjustable Makani that was slippin. A coupla strips of Selleys clear duct tape down the extension (slotted type) has allowed me to back off the tightening screw a bit and she holds like demon now! The same two bits of tape are still there after a year of use too.

I had the same problem. So I removed the clamp, used hot glue to fix in place and taped up the joint. Works great and if I ever want to adjust it I can.
