Picked up this little rocket ship today, thanks to Paul at 2nd Wind for getting it in for me. The wood finish looks devine cant wait to get her wet on the weekend

The young fellas got the right idea - they are less tippy if you keep your feet close together.

Well? Any news on that cool looking sled?

I have had two sessions on the board now. The first was in head to shoulder high light onshore conditions and the second in 1.5 over head glassy reef break waves in the South West of WA.

My observations so far are
1. The board is just as stable if not a touch more stable than my JP Surf 8'2" x 28 101l

2. It catches waves very easily and gains speed straight away

3. The board is the most responsive and lively I have ever used. It swings through tight turns easily and it has taken some time to get tuned into it as it all happens so quickly.

4. off the top the board just blasts out of the lip without any loss of speed.

5. The board requires a bit more of a gentle pressure going into bottoms turns as I have slid out in several occasions. (to counter this I have plugged in some Jackson Close fins in the front and moved the stock front fins to the rear position.)

Over all I am loving the board. It is by far the best surfing sup I have ever surfed. next sesh will be Sunday morning.

It's a shame they didn't pop a fifth box in the rear because a Darc Drive or Numbster in the back is just what you need to overcome this problem.

Casso is a much better rider than I am, but I dont think a nubster will be enough to prevent spinouts. My advice is that only more rail in the water is able to prevent a wide tail to spin out, so just learn to let the board a tad more time to roll and dig the rail before applying pressure.
And of course, move your back foot to the rear as much as possible...

Sounds awesome. I'm glad I can go with 5 small fins - kinda like Piros - in my JP as it did spin out as s quad on harder bottom turns.

I'm sure the right fins will help a lot!

i spin out on my L41 ST if i don't get my feet far enough back. sometimes i think i'm far back, but there's plenty more room to go! agree with Colas, these wider tails require more rail action...flat turns=spins.

At that price it is right back up near the top of the list!

Try HI-1 fins. I bought some for my raptor and solved that exact problem.

Stm, Yeah, the H1 quads hung in fairly well in the Slate. Am also wondering if the no toe no cant setup in the JP's have an effect that makes quads not the best.

Fella's in quoting the price I forgot to allow for some windsurfing gear I traded in back in May when I ordered the board so I'm not sure what the off the shelf price is.

On another note after having two long sessions on the new board on Sunday I have solved the fin sliding out issue. It seems my back foot was not far enough back. As soon as I planted my back foot up against the trail block the whole performance of the board has transformed. It just full on rips through turns. Thanks for the tips guys
