I bought a new Oneil psycho freak a couple of months ago and I'm quite happy with it.

You need something that doesn't release the warm liquid ,that keeps you warm

This maybe a dumb question but do they make a 2-1 wet suit, at my age I pump out the heat when I am active, just need to keep a bit of heat in?

Anything from $100 to $1100 for a custom Japanese suit... Sweet spot is about $300-$400 for a steamer...

If you were gonna wear a 2/1, either a top only or a springy would surely suffice? I've never seen a 2-1 Steamer.

Another vote for need essentials, I bought one for my son and one for me, we both love them. Check them out, good price and fit. I have other brands but the NE was about 1/3 less $

flashbomb zipperless. so flexi, so comfy, quick drying. bit tricky to get into but getting easier.
rip curl shop at scarborough had them 30% off last years, may have some left. i got mine for 420. O/W you will pay like 700 new for the 2017.
Patagonias are around same price.
if you can deal with the cold and can do a 2mm, look at ocean and earth, they do pretty mint 2mm suits at good price.
i got a 2mm aggrolite long arm springi, good for these current autumn conditions but too cold for early mornings and down south...
i recon xcel look the goods too, tho at teh price you pay for wetties i just stick with rip curl as they have worked and lasted for me and evolved every suit i buy. that being said im tall and skinny as you know so you may find a differnt brand fits better.

After being a lifelong ONeil user I wanted to try something new. The ripcurl flashbomb zipperless 3/4 got me through this winter and is the nicest suit I've ever had. Warm and super soft rubber. Just got a 2/2 for the spring.

The zipperless feature is a tad more difficult to get off but with patience is a great innovation when on.
When you pull the head bit off, continue the pull to the side and down to just exit the top of your shoulder in one movement. Then to the other side to just exit that shoulder top. From there bit by bit off she goes.

Wetsuits? I couldn't get past the surf pickies as you get into that web site!

been wearing my new 4/3 technobutter2 oneill psycho-freak---love it---the new top of the line wetsuit fabrics have improved a lot in recent years--

i'm pretty hard on wetsuits as i work as a lifeguard and lifesaver along with operating rescue water craft and surfing all winter, i have one "good" wetsuit a rip curl F-bomb 4/3 which i have had for the last 3 years, only used it about 20 times over that period as i find it to warm most of the time in NSW, i did however pick this up cheap less than 300, as i more than likely wouldn't buy one full price,

the last two years i have been using sanctum wetsuits, brought two 3/2 sealed steamers for under 400 which i find more than suitable for where i live 95% of the time in NSW, these have been great wetsuits would've brought another but they currently don't have any

i have recently picked up a new wetsuit after ripping the chest on one of my sanctum ones one some rocks while training a course,
i picked up a wetsuit from Need Essentials, short arm 2mm for 180,have used it a few times and it feels pretty good

it just depends how often you surf and in what conditions, and how much you are willing to spend

Had a 2/2 F-Bomb zipperless two years ago and too be honest great suit but the fleece lining soaked up the water like a sponge. Weighed the suit one day after a session and wet it came out at 2.5 kg. OK for a surfer but for us SUP riders who spend mega $$$$ on light boards it seemed 2 kg I can do without. Bought a zipperless Quiksilver after that but didn't like the neck seal I believe they have changed the material for 2017 but $600 !!!! out of my budget.

I use O'Neill because they fit so well. My mate uses Ripcurl but I find them uncomfortable. Try til you find one that fits well.

Not in the winter you won't.Don't forget your standing up,once that west winter wind starts up you'll won't some protection.
Iv'e got an O'neil 3x2 Psycho sealed seams, does the trick.

I've got a long John wetty and wear a long sleeve wetty top as well. It's warm enough but when surfing I find that lots of water gets in and can't get out via the legs as they are quite snug around the ankles.
What happens is I get a couple of big balloons of water around my ankles that weighs me down until I can release it.

When you are talking about 3/2 or 2/2, I am guessing your conditions are fairly moderate.

I can't believe the prices you guys are talking about for a suit for those temperatures.

I find that any old cheapo suit will do me just fine in those temps.
When it gets to freezing, suit quality is more critical.... but not in 2/2's

All suits are pretty good

I never spend more on my winter suit than $149
I buy my wetsuits from a dive shop.... I can't tell any difference from a Surf suit, except the price.
Works for me.... I live where it snows all winter and saltwater freezes on your board.
Every 2 years I buy a new one.

^^^^You're right about insane prices, but cheaper alternatives are out there. US $149 = AUS $203 approx. I know need essentials sell their 5x4 hooded for around $300 and their 3x2 for approx. $200 so not too bad, there are others of course and they all make good wetties.

+5 year round multiple seasons surfed, my investment of 3/2mm Yamamoto custom fit still holding it down to this day!!

They even accommodate tune ups as if it was my car. Unheard of service!
